Default Track Day?

Last summer I did a track day at Mosport with the Toronto Prelude Club and Ian Law Racing. It was a blast! If we could get enough people together we could organize our own track day. Who's interested?

I did that too at Shannonville. What is nice with Shannonville is that it's half way betwoon Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal. We could have a great turnout. I'm in!

I'd be willing to do Shannonville too, Mosport is 20 minutes from my house, Shannonville an hour an a half, both are good. I've heard the track surface at Shannonville can be very hard on tires. I ran my stock tires at Mosport and took chunks out of my front left, how'd you find the surface at Shannonville? Let's see who else is interested.

the surface of shannonville is fine, it's the run off that will kill you or your car. most areas have such deep ditches (or moguls in the winter spirit) that if you ran off, you'll jump any one of them and come crashing down on your underbelly.

bodykits = instant bye bye and if you so happen to be steering in a direction you may even f*ck up your suspension and alignment.

You are scaring me.

But I will still go to any upcoming track event with other Z drivers. Provided is on a Sat. or Sun.

I really want to test out the stock brembos and 300+ horse power.

shannonville is alot harder on your tires and brakes cause of all the tight turns. On the other hand mosports has alot of highspeed turns and has a backstraight that can achieve to 200 kph ! Mosports has alot of walls though so if you happen to overlimit yourself, it's bye bye to the car.

It would be best if we had an instructor available. Mosport is a fast track, no need to have any close calls.

I am on a couple lists, anyone been to the road course @ cayuga? Flat track lots of bends, hard on tires and brakes.

I can reach almost 200km/h at Shannonville too with my car. Well, about 195 to be precise. I'm sure I could get 200 if I pushed it a little more. That's on the straight that they use for 1/4 mile.

well you have a TT. You take your car to Mosport, you can probably hit 250+ easy at the backstraight

Well IMO it's more challenging at Mosports compared to shannonville. The instructors are really good too, like someone mentioned and alot safer since there's bascially track officers at every cornering monitoring if everyone is getting out of line and such. Ambulance at the track ready if something happens.

If someone organizes or has a shop that is organizing a mosports track day, im in!

Mosport also has the driver development track which is tight and technical but still alot of fun. Max speed on that track is around 130-140kph depending on configuration. Pretty good run-offs too, so much less chance of doing serious damage to the car or yourself (though someone flipped his Type-R Integra a couple of years ago.) Ian Law usually combines a track school with open lapping for experienced track drivers, or those that have completed his coarse. This is a full day event. I think the school is around $250 and lapping $150. If anyone is interested I could email him and see if he would be willing to do a track day and how many people we need.

I did Ian's 1st course last spring. He did not offer the track or should I say the 2nd course till the fall which was an introductory to the track course. I couldn't wait so I went with Gerry Low

I've got a new set of Nitto NT-01 mounted on new 17x10s that I'd love to try out before Solo2 season starts (early June - depending on the Sens).

Shannonville is good for me. Mosport is more fun but the concequences of going off course are higher as well.

If you guys get a chance, you have to try Calabogie. It's a GREAT track. I hit 195 kph with street tires on that straight away in the link - watch for the downhill braking zone though...

Calabogie's quite far for most of us. But Shannonville is a fun track...

It does kills tires, especially when I've went there for a few drift events. My friends went through 20 tires in on day... I went through around 8 and still didnt finish the day lol.

Definitely watch out for the runout, bent my passenger camber(radius) arm last year.

Watch out for "Corner 0", went in too fast (around 150km/h), ended on the grass and kept on sliding then brushed the wall.

Just keep a common sense and don't push it too far and dont take pressure from other cars.

Hello Drivers,

I'm pleased to tell you I will again be working with Gerry Low on the driver training/lapping days at Toronto Motorsports Park at Cayuga. The track description and season schedule is below.

Please feel free to pass this on to any friends who may have expressed an interest in a track day but are concerned about safety. Cayuga is flat, flat, flat with elevation changes of 0 feet and the runoff is also flat with no rocks or debris.

Any questions please email or call Gerry Low or me.

I will of course continue as chief instructor for Apex. Remember that all Apex days are Mosport this year. Novice days on the Driver Development Course, and intermediate/advanced days on the big GP track. And there are still some days available.

Happy Motoring,

John

TMP Advanced Driver Training - 2007

Toronto Motorsports Park (TMP), Cayuga, is pleased to announce the continuance of its Advanced Driver Training (ADT) / Lapping Program. Participants will use their own technically inspected car. The Chief Instructor will be Gerry Low, a 25-year instructing veteran of numerous Advanced Driving School Programs.

The ADT curriculum is simple, a full day of personalized in-car and group classroom instruction. The emphasis of the Program will be to improve your driving skills, enhance your confidence, and increase your experience whether you are a Novice, Intermediate or Experienced driver. For Experienced Lappers, scheduled seat-time will yield Driving Proficiency. The first date is April 7, 2007 and the number of participants in each group is limited.

New for 2007 is an evening program. Same individual attention to each driver’s needs when the long summer hours permit.

Safety is paramount at TMP. The venue is safe, flat, and technical. Established Driving School Rules of Conduct will be strictly observed. As well, helmets and Vehicle Technical Inspection will ensure the safety of all participants and their vehicles. Your vehicle's insurance coverage is not valid during these TMP Advanced Driver Training sessions so extreme care and caution must be observed.

Toronto Motorsports Park is located near Cayuga, just south of Hamilton, Ontario. This developing Motorsport complex can be configured as two small circuits of 1.2 and 1.8 km each or one large 3 km road course. We will use the 3 km circuit. The paved surface is a safe flat design with good run-off room (one barrier) and excellent sight lines. The course has ample straights, challenging large and small chicanes, tight 90 degree and sweeping high speed turns. A truly good technical course.

TMP is please to announce its schedule for 2007:

1) April 7th, Saturday

2) April 28th, Saturday

3) May 19th, Saturday

4) June 15th, Friday

5) July 27th, Friday

6) August 17th, Friday

7) September 21st, Friday

8) October 20th, Saturday

9) November 10th, Saturday

The cost of each DAYTIME ADT and Lapper participant is $250 and $200, respectively (plus GST) and includes lunch. Time is from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

EVENING programs will be available from May to August. Time is from 4:00pm to just before dusk. Cost for the evening ADT and Lapper participant is $125 and $100, respectively.

Reserve your place now by calling Nancy at (416) 291-4561. Contact Gerry Low at gerry@mezocon.com or (416) 809-6803 (cell) for more details about the Programs.

Yours truly,

Gerry Low

Chief Instructor
