another potential owner here. I would also like to know the average price you guys paid for a performance model in the GTA area and at which dealer/sales person. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thx.
You can order your 04 now. They should be coming into the dealerships in late Aug./Sept.
For pricing, look at the following: http://www.nissan.ca/en/vehicles/350Z/price.html
You should be able to get yours for around MSRP plus 15% tax
and applicable admin. fees. The pricing you see on the nissan
page is actually for '03 models. MSRP for the '04's increased by
about $700 - $1,000 bucks right across the board due to demand
so I've been told.

(it's a long shot i know... but .. worth it.. )
I ordered (and have since received
) my DB Track in November and did get a couple hundred off MSRP. The dealership was in Whitby and the sales rep is a friend. If you think the drive is worth a couple hundred I can ask my friend if he would do the same for someone else. PM me and let me know if you're interested.

At Tony Graham Nissan First initial offering for a performance edition on there lot was 44795 ($105 off MSRP) then I argued with the Sales Manager and he said "Ok, I'll give you 1% off MSRP" which is $44451 ($449 off MSRP) which I still think is not a good price. The markup on these 350Z is 8% plus the dealer gets $596.00 Hold Back. So the true invoice of the car is $40712. The sales manager did tell me that he'd have to speak with the owner to give me more then 1% off the MSRP. I said go ahead. I think a fair price on the 350Z is around $42000. So I then called a car broker and he said his best price was $44375 but if I wanted a touring edition from the auction I could get on for $38000. I am still 350zless but that's because I am a hardnose buyer and never pay more then 5% of the invoice. It just takes me a while to get a car. Example, it took me 9 months to get my BMW and the list was $42,900 and I got it for $36,786.
Cheers

It sounds like you've got great negotiation skills!!
IMHO, the $2K to $3K you're looking at saving easily pays for itself in the sheer car experience. I paid full MSRP, of course I was a pre-order, and am EXTREMELY happy with my investment. No cognitive dissonance here!
A question, if you get your price in, lets say November, how do you factor in that for the first four to five months you will be paying for a car that is sitting in a garage or driveway? If you wait until spring the cycle starts all over again. Supply and demand plays heavily on this car... I guess if you find a really desperate dealer...
What are your thoughts?

Well, I am now waiting for the 2004 because it is too late in the season, as for skills in negioation its just from being stubborn. I have never paid full price on large ticket items, just like no one pays the Asking price of a house which is actually an investment. So I usually go into negioations with a lot more knowledge on what I want before I start...i.e 350Z.com and other sites that will give me the invoice/dealer holdback before I go in. That way they dealer doesn't think I'm a deer in headlights when looking at a car. As for sitting in my garage for 4-5 months (aka Downtime) I take the opportunity to do all the little mods and touchups, clean it from head to toe etc so just baby'in it so that it looks showroom for the next season. Plus the money I save works out to the 1st year payments in the downtime.
Today, was nosing around the dealer again for a 2004 350Z roadster and got the info that it will cost around $52-54,000 and that they take delivery of both the 2004 Coupes and Roadsters Early September. Also looks like the 2004 Coupes will be $700-$1000 more then the 2003. I hope the 2004's will have all the bugs out of them because I think it will be that year that I score with. I'll keep my BMW for another couple of months.
All the dealers are desparate in September to February because no one wants to buy a new car due to the snow and that is when I hit them hardcore. I believe I will be able to get a 2004 for about 2000-3500 off by the time I buy one. Wish me luck because dealers can be as hardnosed as me!!!!

Thanks for the reply Gaels.
I, too, went to TG Nissan (because of location, not because I like that dealership), and got them to play with some numbers. They were insistant on working it out at MSRP until I could get a test drive and decide if I wanted the car. Strangely, there wasn't a car there for me to test drive. Apparently, "the boss's kid had it". On a Saturday. Good one.
I let them know I would not be buying it in the spring as I don't have as much bargaining power as in the winter and I also want to give the RX-8 a try. The salesperson said they would be able to give me a deal on any 2003's on the lot, if there were any, at that time. I don't know what a "deal" means.
Anyways, I am waiting for the 2004's. I bought my wife a 2003 Matrix XRS last year and I should have waited for version 2.0 to get the bugs worked out.
If you buy before me, if you can get a good deal in Ottawa, please let me know the deal and the dealership and I will try it as well. If I buy before you, I will let you know what I can work. Sounds like you are as stubborn as I am. Perhaps we can make this work for us once the snow starts to fall.

just checked out this thread and found it particularly relevant to my approach. like others, I too am adamant about discounts on the big tickets. will share any experience when I take the Z plunge, but is this thread still being monitored, specifically by the 2 guys who declared to perhaps share any hints on good deals? its been a few weeks since the last post before this one.
I am still looking, getting my financing figured out. Patiently waiting for the RX-8 to arrive; then try to get a ride in a demo. Then decide what I want. IS300 has caught my eye as Toyota is selling it for 36xxx, with 2.9% financing if you put a good downpayment down. It ain't no Z, but its a good value as well.
If you haven't driven a Z yet, and you want to, Tony Graham has a demo.

There are 700 RX8's comming to Canada in 2003~ summer 2004. Unbelievly, all of them have been sold and now dealers are taking orders for 'Fall 2004' shipment. Hard to believe but it's very true. My friend visited every Mazda dealership around Toronto last week and they all said so....

Talked to the sales manager at the Mazda dealer on Bank Street this morning (Ottawa). His dealership is getting 18 GT's of which 2 are spoken for. He said there would be a dedicated demo car. The RX-8's should be arriving this month sometime.
So unless he is FOS, it should be easier to get a test drive in an RX-8 than it is to get a test drive in a Z.
