35th anniversary oil consumption.. 1 litre/ 800 km
I just bought a 35th anniversary edition 350z used with 35K on it. It's burning 1 1 litre/ 800 km.. rediculous!!! No accidents, and paid 28,000 for it.
There's a TSB on the engine from NNA-Nissan North America but this is only in the USA. I live In Ontario, Canada and I thought the engines were the same (USA compared to Canada).
Why is there no TSB in Canada???
Does anybody Know what course of action I should take??? Apparently In Canada it's up to the dealership to decide wether it under warranty but it's my understanding that in the USA there are guidelines through NNA.
I need some help fast.. Please :S

When i got my car form us, i phoned nissan usa to run a check on all outstanding recalls, there were none. They sent me a letter confirming few weeks down the road.
Ask Nissan USA to send you a recall letter, then take it with your local dealer, if that dosnt go, call up nissan canada.

Apparently all 06 manual trans. models along with the 35th anniv and track are all the same defective engines... rev-up engines..

You will be best served reading the entire OC thread and also search on the subject.. I have posted in at least 3 threads in this section alone..
Canadian TSB does exist.. What you need to do is make an appointment at the stealership of your choice. Ask them to start the OC testing process on your z.
You will be charged for an oil change (dino oil) and be asked to return in 1000-1500km..
-Find a dealership that has completed at least 1 engine swap.
-Make sure to check the oil level yourself. Do not rely on the dealership for accurate measurements.
-Remove all mods. Why give them a reason to void warranty.
I had my motor swapped out in 2007 @ St.Clair nissan... The service manager "joe" is fairly knowledgeable on the subject, "peter" on the other hand -not so much...
The oil consumption issue happens across a quite a few VQs with manual transmissions, something about the increased pressure while down shifting. The Pathfinder guys swear it is the passenger side valve cover design and PCV valve. I have taken the liberty of buying a second PCV valve from Nissan and at every oil change I swap the valve and clean the old one to be used for the next oil change. My 06 once burned about 500-600ml in 3200KM which was more than normal so I went out and got the new PCV valve, it has been burning about 200-400ml at every oil change roughly depending on how hard I drive and down shift.

Although my first revup motor lost about 1 ltr /500 km.. so the loss was fairly noticeable.
When it was replaced with the v2 motor, I followed the Motoman break-in method.. and to this day, the engine has not lost a drop.

that pcv valve video seems interesting. looks like the old one was stuck open or something. pcv is what pressure control valve? and how hard are these to replace and how much do they cost..annddd whats the availability on getting one of these? this could help maybe an oil catch tank is a good idea?
i have this bs oil problem to but dont want to pay money to take off all my mods and go to the dealership its way to much of a pain. since mine isnt to bad id rather just deal with it. but im thinkin my engine over time will have quite a bit of build of from all that burnt oil residue. a few guys have been trying aftermarket oil coolers
i change my oil every 4k. and by 2k so midway through im at halfway on the dipstick. this is with usuing regular crappy tire castrol gtx. but it was 10w40. which i only used once..before that i was ok on 5w30. and now im trying some mobil 1 0w40 synthetic. giving the synthetic another try. before that i used motul 8100 and that **** disappeared on me.
also id say i drive pretty aggressive. on a daily basis im downshifting a couple times at about 4k and i change gears at 3k and under. but yah when i do take my car out i drive the thing. so that could explain some of my oil burning.

They are readily available at Nissan, at least Agincourt Nissan by my work had 6 in stock when i grabbed it and they are about $20. The PCV valve is right on the top front of the passenger side (right) valve cover right next to the cylinder #1 coil pack. It can easily be removed with a 24mm deep socket (i think) or a wrench but it is plastic so be careful not to break it, once removed you need to swap over the rubber o-ring gasket to the new PCV valve and install it back in the valve cover without over tightening it. It takes about 5 minutes to change.
It is not a fix but it does seem to help as a non-stuck PCV valve will actually close when it is supposed to. Other Maxima and Pathfinder guys swear the actual oil consumption problem lies in the design of the valve cover itself, check this link: http://www.netcrafting.com/car_mx/pathfinder/oil.html he goes into the cleaning of a Pathfinder valve cover and shows how the drain holes are too small. The general idea from what I have read around is that the oil isn't drained quickly enough so it is sucked up by the PCV valve. Any oil that isn't sucked up sits the the valve cover turning into sludge further clogged the drain hole leaving the PCV valve as the only way out for any oil, eventually clogging the PCV valve as well preventing it from closing and allowing the motor to just consume oil through the intake plenum all the time. Now i am no mechanic by any means and I would hope that if this is the actual problem that Nissan would have figured it out...
Maybe drew4075 can try the PCV valve or a new valve cover before going through the TSB and getting a new motor?

Even though i have a friend working at service there, they are a-holes. The aluminium frame that holds the wheel/control arms and so on is **** on z's and over time changes shape therefore making us do allignment every now and then, at least thats what i found on 07+, Anywho ho they said i crashed the car when i didnt and tolled me to replace the aluminium peice along with **** load of others. Bullsh1t so i went to a normal mechanic and he did it for me.

however, they are aware of this problem because i noticed that on g37+ and im sure on 370 they are using a steel assembly instead of aluminium.
By all means though, give them a try and let us know your experience.

Yes... I had my car serviced there a few times. I was never really impressed. In fact they scratched up one of my fenders - luckily they were able to wet sand it out. Overall I find the Nissan Dealers Service subpar IMO. Then again I came from driving a Lexus were the service dept. I dealt with was top notch.
