JE Pistons are available...
My email: "I was wondering if you made any pistons (8.6:1) for the VQ35DE right now? And if so, where can I get them and what is the msrp on them? If not, how much would it cost to get JE to make me some?"
JE's reply: "Yes, we offer these, part # 231523, in stock, the cost is $740.82.
You should check with your local suppliers to buy these, you can get them cheaper from a local shop."

All the major piston manufacuters are making the 8.6:1 for the VQ. I got the Arias pistons in a custom compression of 9.0:1 .020 overbore. Gurgen installed a set of 9.3:1 Arias pistons, and they are nearly silent..just like stock.
Arias uses high silicon AL for their shelf pistons, since contrarary to popular belief, it is the best material for streetdriven cars..running less than 25psi of boost. High silicon pistons expand less than zero or low silicon pistons, and so you can run 25% tighter piston to wall clearances....and you end up with a much quiter engine.
Hth,
Sharif

Yeah, seems like they went the easy way with the 350Z. I wonder if they may come out with a turbo kit (seems like the JWT would be something they could use, CARB approved, relatively mild hp). What about the stuff for other cars? Do they outsource everything or just for the 350Z?

thats the nature of the aftermarket...NISMO, frankly, never made anything even going back 20 years ago. They are now and have been essentially a marketing arm for more competition level products.
Do you think Nissan manufactures the OEM pistons? I would strongly doubt it
