Default Ur crank pulley noise

Even when I was stock, my belts were squealing very badly. I wasnt sure if it was the tensioner making the noise or what.

Anyway, it was an excuse for me to go out and buy a crank pulley . I installed it.

While 80% of the squeal is gone, I still have some "belt noise" at idle. It's not too bad. I tightened the belts pretty tight, what do you think?

Anyone?

I did, they tightened it. It fixed the problem for about a day. I figured it was a belt. Swapped out belts and it helped a lot. Now I only get squeal at idle.

I have a feeling its a pulley that is going. Maybe tensioner?

how well did you lubricate the crank pulley before you put it on? or it could be one of the idler pulleys....its a tough one. what happens when you turn the wheel while it is sitting at idle? does it get worse? you have probably done this already, but just in case....have you tightened all the bolts and looked at each pulley while the car is running to see if any of them wobble?

On the old Volvos that I used to run, every once in awhile the alternator or another belt-driven item would get very slightly out of alignment. So I'd basically eyeball each belt driven item, straighten it out as much as I could, and that would fix it. So...one of the driven pieces might not be lined up properly with the belt. Worth looking at anyway.

Thanks fellas. Yes I lubricated the crank pulley before I put it on. It was always my guess it was the idler pulley (I had one go bad on me before).

And yes I've already done a visible inspection of the belts moving. No wobbling. The belts are pretty tight as it is, I'm not sure if I want to tighten them any tighter. What do you think? I'm scared I'll screw up the bearing inside of the idle pulley etc

Take off the front bumper cover (undernearth section).
Use an extension (I think its #10 socket) and you will see the bolt on the tensioners.

there are pics of it on here if you do a pulley install search. well i can tell you that you do not want to over overtighten the belts, the belt itself might snap, then your screwed and youll be walkin to buy a new one. the small belt should be just slightly less tight than the bigger alternator/water pump belt. i guess if you overtighten them it could cause the squeal too, by bending the pulleys slightly. you might try silicone spray on the idler pulleys. if nothin works, take it to a mechanic

I'm pretty sure its the idler pulley. Had the problem on my supercharged trans am. I'll just get a new pulley, no big deal.
thanks man

I have been having nightmares with this problem. I took it back to Mossy 4 or 5 times to get the sqeal looked at. Each time they changed a pulley and stupidly applied dressing and the problem went away.

I was convinced it was because they were using a 445 belt instead of a 440.

Finally after enough of my complaining they removed the pulley and sent it to UR. Sure enough it was defective.

I just got a new pulley back. They put it on and I went squeal free for 5 days. For the past two it has been squealing at idle. More when cold.

After all our problems and my complaints they put a 445 belt on the pulley instead of a 440. I am furious. I am so sick of this problem.

I am going to buy the appropriate belt myself and have them install it. This is bulllshit. my car has been to the dealer 6 times for this shiat! Total incompetents.
