well, I've decided that I'm going to remove the rear speakers while I install the roll bar. Although I'm adding weight with the roll bar, I figure I should offset that somehow. Besides, I don't think those speakers even work. Have you guys tried setting the fader control to faze out the front speakers, and listen to the rear by themselves? They're practically useless!

rear speakers weigh nothing. You will save a grand total of 1 lb

I was really suprised at the weight of the speakers, dont weight anything. I thiought I would be shaving lots of weight by removing them but when I got them out I was disappointed to find that they weight almost nothing.

You all need to just by and AE86 Corolla 2000 lb with a full tank of gas

seriously though, it takes a lot to lighten the Z, it's a pretty heavy car from the factory. My list is similar to Ricks (not as extreme) as I still daily drive mine... but to all those considering weight reduction, DO IT! It's the best performance mod you can do!

my list (all #'s are approximate):

carbon hood -7lbs (cheapie hood, hacked out insides, now weighs ~8lbs)
drained w/w -5lbs
PC680 battery -22lbs
bucket seat -21lbs
no airbags -12lbs
tilton clutch/fw -48lbs
carbon doors -80lbs (w/stock inner door panel, no glass)
carbon hatch -54lbs (plexiglass window)
test pipes -20lbs
ti-exhaust -40lbs (single exit)
coilovers -8lbs
spare/tools -35lbs
pulleys -4lbs

Koyo Radiator +10lbs (extra coolant)
Cage +120lbs (full 8 pt. 2-5/8" DOM)

that puts me at about 220lbs less than stock... still over 3000lbs!

next possible things to remove:
p/s seat -21lbs
interior ~20lbs
a/c ~25lbs
heater core ~15lbs
starter ~5lbs
battery 13lbs
windshield ~20lbs (lexan)
front fenders ~3lbs (carbon)
stereo/navi ~15lbs
weather proofing ~8lbs
ABS system ~10lbs
e-brake ~2lbs
pwr/steering ~12lbs
intake manifold ~4lbs

beyond this, you start scraping for ounces... and then grams... etc.... gotta love the corolla

you can actually remove the ABS system? I thought that was mostly ECU stuff?

I didn't think the tilton clutch saved 48 lbs. Thought it was more like 30

This spring I was at corner balanced @ 3170lbs with a Cdn touring 350Z (~ 3257 stock).

In terms of weight reduction, I had:
Track rims (7.5x4=~30)
Kumho MX rubber 245/40 all round (~ 10lbs)
JIC Coil overs (~10)
UR Flywheel (~10 at best)
Spare & tools removed (~ 30)
Y-pipe (~5)
UR main Pulley (~5)
Hotchkis sway bar +5
Avalon Harness bar +7.5

Additional affordable mods are:
Battery (-20) have one now.
Cats (-5x2)
Exhaust (-25)
Possibly hatch but I need strenght to mount my bike rack on it so it won't happen anytime soon. -35 with glass.

So without loosing daily driver comfort, the car can reasonably be brought down to: ~3100 lbs or just under. IMO, that's pretty good considering the luxury items and stiffness/safety our cars have.

The Tilton clutch/flywheel is 16 lbs. The stock combo is around 60lbs. so i guess it's more like 44lbs

The ABS pump, electronics, master cylinder, sensors, etc... will easily exceed 10lbs as confirmed by a few of the race teams who have gone with aftermarket brake systems.

have you weighed them? my stock clutch and flywheel are definetly not weighing 60 lbs. I mean I'll go weigh them if you like

Stock flywheel = 26lbs
stock clutch is about 20 lbs

tilton clutch/flywheel = 16 lbs

= 30 lbs of savings

I think you're adding in other transmission parts that are going to be there regardless of clutch or flywheel used

could be your clutch is lighter? what year is your Z? mine is an early 03 and the clutch is definetely more than 30lbs. Even Performance Nissan have it listed as 56lbs for the combo:

I took out the stock clutch out of my 03, and the clutch plate and clutch cover definitely do not weigh more than the flywheel, which is 26lbs. I'll have to weigh them to be sure, however.

the point is that it's much lighter.

The VQ has more potential with forced induction, but you end up getting even heavier... which goes against the whole point of weight reduction. You really can't offset weight by adding HP.
