does anyone know how much the bose subwoover, the bose rear speakers and the two bose amps weigh?

thinking about upgrading my sound and i think i will come a long way with just two good front speakers.

also i would like remove my spare and jack but i'm a bit worried about the weight distribution so what are some good weight reductions at the front of the car?

I did weigh them when I took them out, and it was under 12 pounds....can't remember exact weight...that's without the bose aluminum plate for the sub.

I wouldn't worry about the weight distribution. I drive my car without the spare/jack/tools, and it doesn't feel any less balanced than it did with all that stuff in there.

Get lightweight wheels, carbon fiber trunk, cf hood, lightweight battery, clear the jack, tools, the trunk support, the spare tires, car manuals, the unused mats, run a 1/4 tank of gas, windshield washer fluid kept to a minimum, and go with test pipes, that would be a good reduction right there

I'll put mine on the scales at Roebling this coming weekend but so far I've:
Removed the windshield wipers (front and rear)
Removed the windshield wiper reservoir
Removed the AC (all components)
Removed the heater core
Remove all carpet and sound deadening
Removed the dash and air bags
Removed all interior except door panels and headliner
Removed spare and tools
Removed all plastics under the hood
Removed the Hood support
Removed one horn
Removed the Weight from the hatch
Removed the Ebrake handle and actuators

Replaced most of the bolts with either Aluminum or Titanium
Replaced the Clutch/Flywheel
Replaced the Pulleys (KJR and UR)
Replaced the Battery (Odyssey)
Replaced Manifolds/Catalytic converters (Xerd Long tube headers)
Replaced Stock Y pipe with JIV Y pipe
Replaced cat back with Custom Single exit
Replaced stock Track Model Wheels with WEDSPORT TC005 18x9 18x10
Replaced Stock spring/shocks with HKS coilovers
Replaced OE radiator with AMS radiator
Replaced stock strut bar with custom bar
Replaced the OE seats with Sparcos Sprints
Replaced the OE Brembo rotors with Stoptech AeroRotors
Replaced the OE lug nuts with Project Kics [sp]

Weight added:
Wider tires (275/295)/35ZR18s
Hotchkis Sway bars
KIRK racing roll bar
Tien Hood dampers
Willans 6 point harnesses
Toe hook
Blitz Bumper

I was able to loose a good deal of weight with my previous car (RSX-S). Stock it weighed 2850 and overall I was able to loose about 150 pounds. This is retaining the spare, full tank of gas, A/C, and power everything. If I would have removed the spare and ran a half tank of gas I would have lost an additional 70 pounds putting me down 220 pounds. If anyone is curious as to what I did ask and I will post further down.

Right now I am still breaking in my Z and I am not planning to do any modifications until spring. When I do get to it my biggest focus is going to be lightening the chassis. I really want to get a set of longacre scales to monitor my progress but at $1000 I really can't justify the price for personal use. I would love for the vehicle to be comfortable and weigh 3000 pounds but I think 3150 is more reasonable.

The root of the weight "problem" is the manufacturer; Nissan should look for
ways to lighten the curb weight on our beaZts. Period. Their engineers are
not working hard enough on that department!

I take it you're not familiar with the 370Z? I don't know one other manufacturer/vehicle besides chevy and the Z06 that has managed to take 200 lbs off a next generation anything. I give Nissan engineers tremendous credit!

you must admit though that it took too long... year over year since the G and Z were introduced they got heavier... the upcoming 370Z is the first time they actually are going down in weight...

They were just doing what all manufacturers do; add features and amenities to try to keep their cars relevant and marketable. Usually the big weight gain happens when the next generation vehicle is released. That's why what they are doing with the 370Z is so great.

I don't think it would have been a good business decision to try to drop weight mid-product cycle. Better to apply that engineering $$$ to the next model.

like the G, the Z has gone through different incarnations... completely different motor (even before going 3.7 liter) and other changes... there has been plenty of opportunity in the 6+ years and various changes to lose weight...

But - lets not cry over spilled milk... they are finally doing what is needed to address the issues and that a good thing.

You're the one who brought it up. I was just trying to dry your tears.

I guess I don't see all the missed opportunity you're talking about to lose weight mid-product cycle. Why would you invest all the time and money with re-engineering, tooling, new die-charges, assembly line training and reconfiguration...trickles down to rewriting instruction manuals, etc., etc. to shed some pounds that 95% of the driving public won't notice? Huge expense with little upside. My point was that a manufacturer needs to milk their initial investment in all the aforementioned items for as long as they can to be profitable. Best to save all the rework for when you have to do it anyways with the next generation, in this case the Z34, which they were probably already working on in 2005.

I'm not here to get into a pissing contest with you about weight. My point was its good that they finally took the weight down and not continuously up... the weight gain year over year was a big complaint with many enthusiasts...

Although there was a claim of increasing weight each year, all years Zs were relatively close to one another, assuming the same trim level. So, there was no increase in weight in reality. Many of us have confirmed this to be true at the drag strips using their scales.

You can find lightweight batteries easily. Search for "Braille" or "Odyssey" batteries and you'll find them.
