How much does the engine twist/torque under load?
I have about a finger distance in between my heat shield and my hi flows (this is my thrid setup and still not happy). Some it his when i first start out (with the manual studder) and then again around 2 grand it is not rasp as all something is hitting
so i am wondering if that finger distance is enough space or the engine does twist that mush and ill have the remove the heat sheilds
thanks

I can tell you that the VQ doesnt budge. The Greddy TT outlet actually has less than 2mm of clearance between the subframe member.
I've run the car on the dyno at 520whp+, and still see virtually no movment under load, or when I let off....almost looks like the engine isnt even running. I wouldnt worry.

I think someone that's NA had a problem with a lot of engine movement. Their theory was that one of the liquid filled motor mounts had ruptured. I think he bought the Stillen damper to hold the problem off until some good aftermarket motor mounts come out.
I don't have a thread link, but try searching for "stillen damper."

If you think you can tell just by looking at a running engine then you must have some highly calibrated eyes. The engine mounts on these cars are soft, and the engines will move around, at lease that is the case on my G35c.
so cobalt you had a simmilair problem around 2 grand and up on heavey acceleration you can feel something hitting the floor boards and i HAVE the stock bracket on the cats so im thinking the whole eninge is moving and maybe jsut touching the heat sheilds
by taking off the heat sheild am my exposing another problem whats behind them anything that needs to be protected or will the hi flows let off less heat than stock?? please help because im sick and tired of swiching out pipes the sound is great but this rattling clunking noise is unreal

For what it's worth, my engine rocked like a baby's carriage when I would sit in the car and rev it hard. I installed the Stillen torque damper and that reduced it dramatically. Made a very noticeable improvement in driving feel.

Yes this engine moves around quite a bit. I don't think it's a problem, for some reason that is beyond my knowledge the Nissan engineers used soft engine mounts, probably to reduce cabin noise or who knows why.
IMO the more the engine twists around, the more torque that is being wasted. I put on the engine dampener and the engine no longer moves around, so I am giving that wasted torque a new lease on life and hopefully a chance to get down to the wheels which is where I want it

I have heard that the g35 has less clearance and you have to bang on the floorbords a little to get them to fit. I beleive this is true for all aftermarket cats, they make them for the 350 and sell them to g35's, but they may not fit perfectly like on the 350.
