New Transmission
I brought my 05 Z in at 3600 miles to get the tranny checked because of the throw out bearing noise. They checked it and said that they need to put a new transmission in the car. Now they ordered one, and I am waiting for it, however my friend told me warranty tranny's are rebuild ones, not brand new ones. I havent talked to the service department yet, however I sure dont want a used, transmission on my almost brand new car. Its so new that I havent made the first payement on it yet. Anybody have any info on this one? If they are using a rebuild transmission, is there anyway i can force them to get me a new one?
Thank you.
Thank you.

I liked my first tranny better than the second.
I'm not sure if they are rebuilt, but my replacement tranny is a heck of a lot more notchy. While shifting, it clicks out of one gear, then clicks again when I shift into another gear.
They also failed to install two bolts that held a plastic shield in place. It made a vibrating flutter noise at 80+ speeds.
Dealer bastards.
I swear I'd pay $$$ if I could get a QUALITY tranny in this car.

I have 900 miles on my new one and i also liked my first one better but i dont think the transmissions are rebuilt but i could be wrong. Good luck and dont forget about
break in time on your new tranny.

Well I just talked with the service guy and he said, its gonna be a brand new one, since Nissan only does automatic rebuilds not manuals ( didint made any sense to me abut ohwell). The sound was a whining noise while the cluthc was depressed, which went away when the clutch got pressed. also I had my first gear sounded way different than other gears, it was more like a 2 metal plates rubbing eachother, than regular gear noise while the car was in first gear, beeing driven clutch completly out.
Whats the breaking in time on the new tranny? 500 miles or so?
any specifics on how to break it in?

Dealer told me there really isn't a break-in required, it will just feel notchy and be harder to shift at first until it is broken in. One good night at the drag strip really smoothed out 1-4 gears but 5th and 6th are still really notchy and almost like a 2-stage shift.
Had my tranny replaced at about 23k miles.
Almost at 25k miles now still seems fine. It has only been about a month or so, so I am pretty sure I got the newest/final revision (since June '04 I think).

I finally had my gear box replaced last week. Mainly it was grinding 3rd badly but the T/O, if that's what it was, made noise at idle when not in gear & clutch disengaged. Now tranny is beautiful and that noise is a lot quieter.
