Default Taller Gears

Asked this in the general mod thread, didn't get much reply.

I clarified that the AT Final Drive for our car is a 3.3 as opposed to the stock 3.5.

Is that the only option, switch to the AT final drive? Or are there other products out there?

(Edit)
Looking to go taller by the way not the 3.9 from Evo

I don't think there are other options and I wouldn't consider going any taller you would lose too much, you lose a bit in accel but make it up by accelerating longer in each gear.

Don't bother with the swap unless you are looking for better highway gas mileage. Making that change will hurt your launch/60' time.

I believe the auto is a 3.2, im not positive though, you really wouldnt want to do this mod unless you went F/I, even then i dont think its been proven to work.

It is 3.3 and unless you go FI you wont see the benefits but rather see a reduction in accel.

As for losing 60' times you gain it back by not having to shift into 5th at the end of the 1/4 mile, with FI you are trapping 112+ and 4th gear maxes out around 110 with 3.5 but goes to 120+ with 3.3

I am going FI. APS Single Turbo. I'm looking to make the 400 RWHP a little more managable. Figured that a 3.3 will give me better real world accel because I will have a easier time with 1st and 2nd gear.

Then you will like it, 1st and 2nd become much user friendly they don't hit redline so quickly. But I would drive it around with stock rear and then make a decision, mine is TT and I have Nismo Flywheel so it may behave differently than your setup.

Correct. My G35s' 5AT tranny shifts from 4th into 5th at about 128-130mph.

Yeah it is close, I don't think I can go to 128-130 with the AT diff in my 6MT more like 120-121 which is just fine to know you have crossed the end of the 1/4 mile for sure.

just curious, can you put in the 3.9 gears and launch with 2nd gear? Or is that not such a great idea?

That would kind of defeat the purpose of changing the gear out...plus it would put quite a beating on your clutch to get the car out of the hole in any quick manner.

well was just thinking it'd save a shift since 1st gear is damn near useless with FI anyway....

Probably true, but maybe not as bad with a taller 3.3 FD.
