In stock trim, the 350Z makes it's peak HP and TRQ well below the stock redline. What do you think that building the bottom end and "getting the redline up a few thousand" will do for performance? The top end is where you want to be if you are concerned about making power anywhere past 6K without FI. Sure, if the rods were being spun to 9 grand, and you actually could make power there, you might be concerned about their well-being...but the fact is, you'd need some major work up top to even accomplish that much.

The STi is "front heavy" with a 58%-42% front-to-rear distribution. It's even FF biased as it primarily uses a 60/40 split. But I'd love to see one understeer just once.

Quit reading Super Street.

What are you talking about? they understeer like mad. You can compensate for this by cranking the wheel then mashing the throttle to generate oversteer but it's not a graceful process.

I believe you should get just about all the N/A mods you want to get before reflashing. For 04/05 350z's they use preset ecu programs to match closest to whatever mods you have, plus they can custom tune if they are not satisfied of the results.
Thanks for letting me know and I got 03 Z, Is there any difference between 03 and 04 Z in terms of tuning the ECU? Oh, Can I actually put the U TECH on the Z? or Is the U tec just for turbo cars, one of my friend got the STI and he install the turboXS UTEC, I think that the U tech does kind of reflash the ECU in order to adjust the Fuel gas.

Ok, I'll give. You are right. Their "understeer" can be compensated for by mashing the GO pedal. No, it's not pretty, but it makes for good lap times. I'm just comparing it to our understeer...which is dealt with by lifting off of the GO pedal. It's even less impressive, and makes for a pissed off driver. If the Z attempts to compensate in the same manner, it will find itself in the grass.

The STi is no slouch - even with the "weaknesses" you mentioned. I wouldn't want to find one in my rear view on a twisty road. Well actually, it would probably make for some great motoring, but you know what I mean.

Dude, just ask technosquare. People actually work there, so they can answer your questions.

It actually came a close second for me on the test drives. I don't consider the handling a weakness as much as a consequence of the AWD. Power deliver was great, ride was harsh...well, underdamped. It was bottoming out on rough roads. But I was driving the dealership owner's beaten car so the shocks may have been worn out already.

The driving experience wasn't as rewarding to me as the Z. The Z is a more connected drive...more fun to explore it's limits.

Wrong.

The STi can vary torque split between 50%f/50%r and 35%f/65%r. It is not possible for the center diff to allow 60 percent of the available torque to be transmitted to the front tires.

I am about to trade in my STi for a 350 or a G, but not because I think they are faster.

My theory on the whole thing is this, sure you can waste your money to try and "prove" that you are faster than an STI, but really, is like booing at the special olympics... pointless. Either way, win or lose, YOU ARE THE ONE GOING HOME WITH THE Z and he/she will always have an ugly car.
Love peace and chicken grease.

Go to the dragstrip and race the STi. Scan and post the time slips here. Without some sort of reference, answering your question is just a shot in the dark.

Dont spend $3K on bolt-ons for this car. I think they are a waste of money for the results you get. Take the $3k and add about $3-4k more and get a Vortech or spend a little more and get a S or TT setup.

With $3000 you can always look for a used vortec or ati prochager. The thought has crossed my mind. I'm not big on used parts but if there low mileage and not abused why not.
