Well, I got the bad news from my parts supplier...looking at mid september for the bearings. He said there's a chance they'll come in as early as late august, but not to quote him on that.

Guess I'll think about adding a new exhaust to the mix and have them install that while they're replacing the diff as well...hmm

Has anyone actually installed one of these yet, and if so, what are your impressions? I am seriously looking at this, yet the lack of feedback is holding me back. Please post if you got one put in.

Thank you.

Nobody has installed one yet, as we are working on a fitment issue with Quaife. More details will follow late today, so if you are in the market for the Quaife diff, hold off for a few days.

Mine arrived today, and it's a real work of art.

Anybody else with stub axles to sell, drop me a line.

Please post fitment issues and or any tips upon installing for the rest of us on-the-fence people. Thank you.

Is there any updates on what the fitment issue is and what the resolution is going to be?

Hi Jochim, thanks for the reminder

Quaife is still wording the "official" document to release to everyone.

In summary, Quiafe is going to ship, at no cost, a spacer plate and longer bolts to everyone with the 6MT differentials. This should take about 3 weeks or so.

I will have a firmer timeframe in a couple of days. I can tell they want to absolutely get this thing right, before releasing the process for the fix.

So, the issue is clearance with the OEM diff cover? Is it likely that the same issue would obtain with the Nismo diff cooler?

No, actually, the height of thr ring gear shelf is too low. So the spacer will be installed, with the longer bolts, and all will be good. The length and end to end dimenions are correct...just the location of the ring gear is off 10mm.

Cool, thanks. I've never had my diff apart, and from the exploded drawing it wasn't clear what might be amiss. Did Quaife provide a torque spec for the bolts?

I don't understand how Quaife could release a product with such a basic flaw. H*ll, I even sent them a complete differential with axels etc.

Looking forward to the reviews.

Sharif, does this only affect the 6MT rear end? I just purchased an open differential with axel stubs, will I need this also?

Thanks.

Sounds like thet took dimensions from a 5AT diff....vs the 6MT if the ring gear backspacing is off.

Default Paper weight!

I just brought mine to the office, and use it to hold down stacks of paper!

Its quite the conversational piece.

Bob: Nice paper weight!
Me: Thanks, its a racing paper weight!
Bob: Really? What does it do extra????
Me: It leaks a slight oil residue on my papers.
Bob: Thats tight! Where can I get one!!!

So is the housing a differnt size, or are the ring gears a differnt size? I'd be happy to install the 3.3x version of the ring gear over the 3.5x one. Now that I'm FI, I think the taller gear would be nice!

That is correct. Trq specs will be provided for the new longer bolts.

Yes, if you have the 6MT...either open or factory VLSD, they wont fit without the additional parts.

The pig I sent them was out of a Track model......

The thought of having to add a spacer & longer bolts scare's me.

I'll wait for a properly engineered unit.

Not going to hold my breath.

The spacer is made of hardened steel, and the bolts are better than OEM strength. This thing is precision ground to 1/10,000 inch, and will have no impact whatsoever on strength, or longevity.

Oh-Kay......

How many 1/10,000 inches are there in 10 mm? I forget the conversion.

Sorry, this pisses me off that Quafe, a respected, quality manufacturer could release such a poorly engineered product, given that they had in their hands a production unit.

Hope the band-aid works.
