Anyone have the Central 20 3.9 Gears?
I am thinking about buying the Central 20 3.9 gears. I currently have the 3.3 pumpkin and am trying to get my hands on a 3.5 pumpkin. Anyone know what is involved in installing the 3.9s? Are they a direct fit or are other things needing to be done?
If anyone has installed the Central 20 gears, chime in please.
Just an FYI, I also have the Vortech (3.12 pulley putting down 367HP/305TQ) and some basic bolt-ons.

The 350evo ones are manufactured. Central 20 gears are more than likely (although we are not sure) factory gears from another vehicle probably from Japan, and that happen to fit. I do not think the central 20 gears are manufactured brand new, because the pricing is very comparable to that of factory gearing......
The 350evo gears were made specifically for high performance Z and G rear ends...

The Central 20 gears are also manufactured specifically for the Z. And FWIW, Central 20 is a 30 + year old tuning house and fabrication house from Japan, who's history with racing both Nissan and BMW's is well established there. The only cars they sell and make parts for are Z's, and the only cars they service are Z's...from the early S30's to the Z33

for the original poster:
shims wil be needed to set up the correct backlash and get a good contact pattern....so it needs to be done by nissan or someone who can get their hands on the shims. you will not be able to tell what size you need until the new ring and pinion are installed.
as far as 350evo charging $800+ because they are manufactured is a joke. a gear set for pretty much ANY other car is way cheaper. example: a new 3.73 fd gear set from mopar for a srt-10 is $250. 350evo simply had the chance ot sell the gears at whatever price they wanted bc there were no others on the market. i think their price will come down as they are not competetive at twice the price.

Actually.....the real reason our gears are priced the way they are is...because we had to include in the price all the R&D that went into it....+ the cost of the manufacuring the units.
If......we waited until another company took the inititive to do all the development and manfucture a set of gears....oddly enough the same exact spec as ours....then have someone purchase one so we could copy it.....and have it manufactured in Japan where the price of steel is much cheaper that the price here in the US...I am sure we would be able to get them made for a cheaper amount in a much smaller quantities. OT get our gears priced that low we would have had to get over 500 sets made here in the US.
Just my 2 cents....yeah we should have prob waited......but then we would not have been true to what we set out to do.....create real race parts.

i understand the r&d had to be done and the first one out of the gate are going to be more expensive, especially on a brand new car and rear end design....but i still think $800+ is just a little high, but hey, i dont manufacture or sell car parts. anyone who releases a product first runs the risk of being coppied and undercut in price. you have to pay to be the first and this is a fine example.
isn't immitation the highest form of flattery????
