Thumbs up Quaife at last, Quaife at last!

According to my shop, the Quaife went in perfectly, along with a new Central20 3.9:1 gearset, Motul 300 and a Nismo diff cooler. Looks sharp, runs quiet, and damned if it doesn't actually work. Hooks up way better than stock, and flows around turns like it's planted there, pretty much as expected.

The shorter gearing is a lot of fun, but would probably have gotten the tail all squirrely, since the VLSD was already out of its league, from tire and suspension upgrades. The Quaife keeps it all together, no theatrics at all. Stealth mod, like an extra ace, and the shorter gearing is _really_ a lot of fun.

Strup headers went on, too. Not _exactly_ stealth, but they sure do sound nice when you get your foot in it. There's probably some extra hp in there somewhere, too. Hard to tell, with the new rear, but all the stuff together feels significantly quicker _and_ more predictable, _and_ it sounds good doing it.

This set was a long time coming, what with all the teething problems the Quaife had, and after waiting another good long time for Central20 to get over here with nicely priced gears. And of course the headers arrived at JetHot right after Katrina took their southern plant offline....

Not a cheap mod, and not day/night like big boost, but sound engineering for getting what power you do have down. Kudos to Sharif for hooking us up with Quaife, and Z1 for those nice new gears.

NICE

Does the Quaife go into the 06 base model Z without too many problems? Does it need extra parts? How much for part? How much for install? Thanks.

Congrats. Enjoy that new Quaife! Since you have a 6MT I'm guessing you had to use the spacer/bolt kit and open diff stub axles right?

The spacer and bolts were required (those ARP bolts that Quaife sent were the nicest bolts I'd ever seen), and I ended up getting the new stub axles (they call 'em flanges) from Courtesy. Side bearings and seals, and the Nismo cooler came from Performance, as I recall.

The harder I drive it, the more I'm impressed. I know it's drivetrain, but it _feels_ like a suspension upgrade, the way it keeps things planted. Worth all the waiting.

Great to hear! FYI, we are running a special on Quaife diffs for $1399 shipped. They now have two part numbers....so spacers are no longer needed for the 6MT guys.

Did you do any break-in after you got the quaife installed. I am just wondering how long I should wait before I really start having fun with mine.

No real break-in is required. I would wait about 250miles, and then let it rip!

Nice. How's highway driving (are the revs significantly higher)?

What is it... about a 10-11% increase in RPMs across the board, at any given speed?

The revs are noticably higher, but what's slightly strange and a little unexpected is how right the new gearing feels. I'm sure I'm shifting more often, but I don't even think about it because rev matching seems to suddenly have gotten a lot easier. The Rogue SSK helps a lot, especially now that I've gotten used to that CNC stainless pistol grip I got from Sharif a while back. Snick.

Just driving around town, I'm just naturally in 3rd where before I'd be in a gray zone waiting to shift a lot of time. I know this is all subjective, but I find myself agreeing with other 3.9:1 users who've said they thought this is the gearing the Z should have had all along. I don't think I'm driving any faster, but it's definitely quicker. Works for me.

The only difference is the crown height. The mechanicals are identical.

does anybody have the exact part numbers for the stub axles required for the quaife?

my local nissan dealer, in canada, cannot get the stub axles since the base open differential was not offered in canada. so I will have to order from the usa. a pain so i'd like exact part numbers before if anybody knows.

in this picture, is it #5, that is listed as a flange or are they the same thing?

thanks and appreciated

The flange is the name of the part, but I dont see a picture of it in this diagram, maybe due to the funny angle.

We can order these for you, and ship to Canada if needed. PM me if you need any help.
