What the bejesus, I think the strut bar spacers are too large (or I f'ed up) because it clears the plenum, but the hood is not closing properly....I'm pissed

raise the hatch up a little then you will be able to close your hood.

hmmm, shouldnt be any fitment issues with 5/16. I would just recheck everything, but I am sure you already did that. May have strut bar adjusted incorrectly.

Is this a stock hood?

Mine contacts the aftermarket hood. I placed some weather stripping under the hood to keep it from damaging the strut bar. Seems to work fine for me.

I've got the basic 5/16" and I had the bulge on the drivers side. I took out the spacers and I have a little bit of clearance between the strut bar and plenum and my hood now closes with no bulge. If you want you might try just using the washers under each bolt and see if that works. But like I said, if you still have a bulge, take out the washers and just reinstall the strut bar like it was w/o the spacers or washers.

Man, you guys are getting me worried. I'm about to order the MD 5/16" spacer, but I don't want to run into any fitment issues. So let me get this straight. So you need to put washers to the strut bar to clear the 5/16" spacer?

mc350z,

Correct, I didn't use washers or spacers and it fits fine. I have room between the plenum and strut bar and my hood doesn't bluge. With the washers I noticed an ever so slight bulge on the drivers side.

I think the strut bar slightly rests on the hood but if you will notice there are rubber strips on the underside of the hood that protect.

onebadfyvo,

Don't let this scare you away, this is an excellent modification you can do to help gain HP on your Z. And it's relatively cheap. For the $ you can't beat it.

Me too. I also have the same spacer and am waiting for warmer weather to install. If I have any fitting problems, I’ll just leave the OEM strut brace off. Then buy a brace that will fit properly.

i think this one is operator error....or maybe he left a screwdriver under the hood somewhere.

i installed this identical piece, isotherm, and have NO clearance issues as advertised.

It sounds like the clearence between the upper plenum and brace

...and brace and hood are tight. What happens at maximum torque when the engine moves?

I fixed it to almost perfect by taking the rubber stopper out from the driver side hood section
