Default Signs that transmission needs to be replaced?

I know few of you have replaced trannies. When do you know , it is time to replace tranny. What kind of problems you see for transmission going bad? Are there any tests?

I have owned Z for almost 3 years now, wondering if I need to check tranny before 36 months warranty runs out.

Thanks a lot

I think the obvious thing is if your shifter pops out of gear, its time for the tranny to go... lol

if you start experiencing grinding or popping out of gear/slipage then its time for a new tranny. however your powertrain warranty will cover the tranny till 5y/50k miles so don't worry about it unless its giving you problems.

Thanks all for the reply. the only thing I have noticed is that sometimes when i depress the clutch either in first or second in the morning, it makes a chatter at under 2500RPM. Seems to go away when the car is warmed up. Occasionally happens once in a while depending on if RPM is low.

Is it normal?

This has been happening to my 06 ever since I bought the damn thing. I'm not sure if its normal, I just thought it was. Nothing is really normal about these damn trannies on the 350z's though.

Sounds like the synchros and it is normal. Grinding while going into gear(mostly 3rd and 5th) and popping out of gear are the tell-tale signs.

I'm frequently getting the grinding when going into 3rd gear (like I've missed a shift and eating teeth) and during it's first few minutes of operation but once it's warmed up it doesn't happen as much. Is this a symptom of needing a new transmission or what parts are going bad? Is it my flywheel?

This seemed to just start happening the last few months or am I just forgeting to engage the clutch all the way before throwing it into 3rd? Could this just be lazy shifting?

the problem lies in proving it to the dealers. by the time you get there, your car is warmed up and the grinding stops...

Isn't the drive train warranty 60,000 mile or 60 months?
