Default The Z is shuting off for no reason, HELP!

When I'm around 55- 70mph or so and shift into neutral and attempt to brake
to slow down the car sometimes the car shuts off completely.

I repeated this routine several time today and the car shut off on me about 5 out of maybe 10 tries.

Recently I converted my Injen Cold Air Intake to a short air intake and a new tranny about a month ago.

Tomorrow I will go back to a cold air intake to see if that is the problem, In the mean time does any one have any input on this matter?

Thanks!

You might have a vaccum leak somewhere. I had this happen when I put the SSV on. Had a small leak. Under throttle it's was fine but when you let off it shut off. Air was getting in and messing with the sensors. Tighten up all your intake bolts an dmake sure there's no leaks. I'm betting there's a small one somewhere

Could have something to do with your intake and the placement of the filter in relation to the maf if it didn't do it before. My old EVO 8 did that and I know the Mazdaspeed Protege guys have the same issue from the factory.

There's been some other people who complained about the engine stalling after letting the car idle while at speed. I believe that all had the popcharger. I also read somewhere on here that there was a fix, which was putting a piece of tape on the bottom of the filter (1 piece, vertical position from the bottom center). I guess there was some reversion of air do to low pressure blah blah blah... Give it a shot, no harm done if it doesn't work. Try searching to find the thread. I think it was titled something like car shuts off at 120 MPH

I recall there being several threads on the stalling problem with popchargers. Usually occurred after a prolonged high speed run when they let off the gas and started to coast in neutral. Engine would die mysteriously.

Exactly my problem. Tomorrow I will go back to a cold air intake and see if the problem disapears.
If not I will take everyone's advice and continue to attempt to locate the problem.

Thanks for everyone's reply, please do continue to chime in and give your thoughts on this problem.

I will post up if converting back to a CAI solved the problem or not; will see

Hopefully not, all I did was take off the hose( sorry can't think of the name right now) that you orderd for your V-SC from Injen and relocate the filter.

I think at one point or another most Z33 owners did think about buying a EVO, STI or a RX-8

I almost bought an STI, but bottom line, the looks were not impressive.
As for the EVO, definitly not impressed, felt like a test drove a Toyota Trecel with a beefy engine.

Not this one! LOL Unfortunately, I'm married to someone who traded a Z33 for an STi. But, that situation has been taken care of.
