Default Performance Main and Rod bearings ?

Where can I get better-than-OEM Main and Rod bearings? Do I first need to rip my engine apart before I know which ones exactly I need or does a 2003 come will only one type of bearings ?

Thanks

Danny

There are no aftermarket bearings being made for the VQ35 at this time. The only way to replace the bearings is with OEM parts.

You will need to dissassemble the motor in order to order the correct bearings. You will need the stamped coding off of the block and crank in order to get the right ones as each VQ35 is different.

There are 3 different grade OEM rod bearings and a whole bunch of OEM main bearings.

Nismo sells them - check japanparts.com, and yes, you will need your engine disassembled before you know what sizes are needed.

First of all, Thanks for the information all.

JapanParts has 10-15 days delivery by air, after they take my engine apart... that sux... Is there anyone else (US?) that sells those things or am I safe to go with stock ones? (14psi)

nearly all of us built motor guys are running stock bearings with no problems. i will assume more will be available in a year or 2 with aftermarket manufacturers.

The numbers on the block will only help you for crank bearings. Rod bearings will need be sized seperately, since you are installing forged rods. If you use Pauter rods, most of time, a set of green bearings will work perfectly. But best thing is have your machine shop tell you which size bearings you need.

A year ago, when I was doing my build, main bearings were unobtanium. I had to have them air-freighted from overseas. I wish I'd had a spare motor to build and I could have avoided some downtime. My advice is to make sure you locate parts before the engine comes out of your car.

Sounds like good advice, but since I need to take the engine apart before I know exactly which bearing I need, it's kinda hard to follow...

Thanks

Danny,
what I meant was to check who has which bearings in stock ahead of time. If Jason at Performance has three sets or X and Steve at Courtesy has two sets of Y, you've got a better chance of avoiding a holdup. There's also a special category(name escapes me) where you get first dibs because your car is "sidelined". Yes, I know you can't tell which main bearings you need until disassembly.

OK I C now.

I'm actually seriously considering asking japanparts.com to overnight the NISMO ones to me...
