Question B-Line oil cooler kit... anybody have any experience?

Good day!

Does anyone in this group have any experience with this particular B-Line oil cooler kit?

http://www.blinemotorsports.com/oilcool.html

If so, I would greatly appreciate your comments and evaluation.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

Are you mechanically inclined? If so, I recommend building your own kit. The cooler in this kit looks a little small in width. It also looks like it uses -8 lines. You should run -10 lines. Do a search under my user name and you will find a write up I did on my oil cooler install.

Are you going with the B&M core? I saw it on Summits website. I already have a sandwich adapter and it has two extra 1/8 NPT threaded holes in it already. I have thought about getting an oil cooler because I have noticed my oil temps stay around 200-220 deg. and have hit 240+ degrees when under heavy throttle. I do have the Vortech SC which gets its oil from the engine and I am assuming that is part of the reason my temps are high.

Zteve, I checked out you oil cooler install thread... great job! My thinking is that I will probably follow your lead and create my own.

Did you support the oil cooler core at both the top and bottom?

As I recall, you are using the Earl's core... any particular reason for your choice? There seem to be several similar out there on the marget.

Thanks for the great info!

Rob,

I did not support the bottom. When I finished the install, i saw that everything fit nice and rigid, so I did not feel any bottom supports were needed.

I chose the Earl's cooler because I've used them on other cars in the past with great success. I have also used Mocal and Setrab, all of which are excellent. Don't waste your time with a cheap unit like B&M, they do not cool as well (I've used those too and have first had experience with their inferiority). Spend the money for an Earls or Setrab core. I've done over a dozen oil cooler installs and these are the best cores.

Let me know if you have any questions as you go through the install process.

Thank you very much, Zteve, for sharing your experience and insight! I'm sure that I will be asking some more questions before I finally get this done. It seems that I go through an awful lot of foreplay before I ever actually get anything done... heck, my Stoptech kit sat in the garage for a full six months before I got around to installing it.

I thought that retirement meant that I would have more time to do neat stuff... 'taint so!

Happy-nearly-the-weekend!

I looked up the oil coolers you mentioned here. Which exact model of Earl's would you recommend? I noticed a big difference in price between the small and large row models. Also, did you need to buy anything else to install them correctly?

Thanks

Looks like they're building a new Intake Manifold for the Z too...
