Wow.. ebay special: PE Knockoff Oil pan.. $100..
phunk,
Thanks for taking the time to write up all of that. I was thinking about taking off my JWT spacer and installing this one. Now I believe it is not worth the money. You made many good points. I am just going to spend the extra money and get an oil cooler to go with my spacer.

Wait a minute, APS is always correct and complete, if they copied this oil pan then it must be correct. Just ask them. BTW, does the "replica problem" affect the APS clone of this oil pan?
honestly i appreciate you guys taking the time to read the long post rather then just blindly defending a product. i was expecting a negative reaction due to all the people that have these pans.
phunk, I think it is because you make a logical arguement that is difficult to refute. Doesn't really matter that I have one, I see the merits of a spacer and the demerits of the PE pan that you presented. I do see a better "fall" for the oil return lines using the PE pan, but the other benefits of the pan aren't all that much. Tempurature differences (due to fins) could only be determined by running an exactly same system with the two methods, i.e., spacer vs. PE pan, although I just don't see the PE pan providing all that much cooling vs. stock or spacer. In my case it came with the kit, that is why I have it, if I didn't, I would have bought a spacer first due to cost / benefit - think it is around $500 for the PE pan vs. most spacers around a $100.
In other words, you make very valid points. Esp. for changing oil, taking the filter off is a big mess, no doubt.

The knock-offs are cheap for three reasons.... cheaper (and inferior) materials and manufacturing processes; cheap labor; and the fact that someone else paid for the R&D. When you remove the incentive for companies to R&D new products by not being willing to pay for that R&D, you limit a companies willingness to make new parts for our cars.
