well this tsb sucks for me....because according to it, my v2 that i thought was working out for me, meets its "NO GOOD" area on its graph =(

its been 2200 miles and im past half.

if this is their stipulations for whats an OCing revup....then their "real" revised revup must be perfect. but i really hope i dont have to get a v3 cuz ill cry.

Actually, this could be really good. Nissan may have bent themselves over on this one because it is now plainly defined what constitutes excessive consumption.

I have the v2 and got it by going through the process and filing the final repair attempt paperwork.

Since this is their final repair attempt, then a No Good reading gives me a ton of power for a replacement vehicle.

The dealer also insisted that it was full when I went in (not sure what they did, but I saw it and it was at the H). Well, 1300 miles later, I am down 15mm. The only real issue is getting an honest reading out of a dealer. That can easily be taken care of with a camera.

I also just got my V2. It's been 1,000 miles and when I checked my oil level it was half way already.

I'm having another oil consumption test right now. I took it this morning and will be bringing it back after another 1,000 miles.

I may be wrong, but I believe that some oil consumption during break-in is normal.

What do you think?

How long does the average break-in take?

Why has this thread been un-stickied? Will a mod please revert it into a sticky? Having the TSB as a sticky is great but this thread is about a lot more than that. I have found other users' experiences and tips very beneficial.

I agree- this is a big deal for this model year, would be great if we could keep it at the top

+1 its normal...also when the dealer puts in the new motor, they most of the time or negligent in checking the prefilled oil in the motor, 5 qts amounts to about half on the dip stick due to it filling in all the nooks and crannies. (or so ive been told and explained about)

Default Graphical Representation

Hi Guys / Gals. I thought it might be helpful to some folks if the "Allowed Oil Consumption" was mapped proportionally to the "DipStick". So I drew this up in Visio...

^ very nice...

Agree about keeping this thread as a sticky.
Three reasons I feel it's still important:
1- Us G ppl haven't received this OC TSB win.
2- This thread has a running update with the success rate of the V2 that ZeeForce has so diligently kept going from members updates.
3- Is there or will there be a V3 released at a later date.

Administrators/Moderators...please reconsider.

Good work, but you should remove the mention of oil quantity from the Y axis on the graphic or perhaps update it. In my experience, when the oil is one full quart low, drip stick is at exactly half. I have confirmed that several times in the past few months.

@gothchick:

I think there is a little mistake in your calculation:

1/4 th of the dipstick is not 0.25 qt
half of dipstick ist not 0.5 qt
3/4 of dipstick is not 0.75 qt
...

The oil consumption chart allows 1 qt per 3750 miles.
or
The oil consumption chart allows 0.133 qt per 500 miles.

Your dipstick refers to the 8 intervals, after 1st the maximum allowed consumption is about 0.133 qt (2mm), after 2nd interval the allowed consumption is about 0.266 qt (6mm), after 3rd it´s about 0.399 qt (8mm) and so on...

Regards
Mike

I took my 2003 G35 in today, and it was 3 quarts low in 1000 miles. They tried to tell me to take it in for a FOURTH time, but I said 3 1000 mile tests is enough. First one = 2 quarts low. Second = 1.5 quarts low. They want me to bring in the receipts of the service records. Fortunately the service has been done at Infiniti/Nissan dealerships.

Are you guys sure the hashed area on the dipstick isn't (1) quart? I always thought it was...

A: 1 quart

Confirmation: Today I had the dealer change the oil on my 05 SS (same oil capacity -5 qt as the 06). I was able to stand next to the car the entire time and we poured in 3 quarts and it did not even register on the dipstick. Poured the 4th quart in and it registered on the last cross hatch mark at the bottom of the “L”. I was also informed that all manufactures (Ford, Toyota, GMC etc) all use the same standards on the dipstick as to the amount of oil low which is 1 quart. It’s an industry standard within the manufactures to all keep their “L & H” marks on the dipstick to be the same.

Oh, and we did crank the engine after 3 qrts were poured in, to get oil into the oil filter. Then we poured the fourth quart in and let it sit for 20-30 minutes, checked the hash mark at it was spot on the 24 mm mark (bottom cross hatch mark).

Absolutely. 100% positive. That's what I spent my summer doing

My Z burns exactly one quart every 1000 miles. So at that point, when I check the dipstick, it is at exactly half. I add a quart and it comes to exactly the H mark. Never fails.

Dipsticks are not meant to be linear.

So how much oil is represented between the H & L on the dip stick then?... "Exactly"?
