Well I have been following this thread for awhile and decided to check my oil level after 1000 miles and it is kinda hard to see exactly where the oil level stops on the dipstick but one time it looked like it was at 10 mm and another time it looked like it was a 2 mm so it was kinda hard to read even after repeated checks. I think I may let the dealer know that I have noticed abnormal oil consumption and for them to start documenting everything just to make sure I am on the safe side.

I suggest letting the car sit overnight for the most accurate reading possible. Oil gets slung all over the dipstick and dipstick tube when the car is running, so it all needs to settle down into the pan before you're able to get a good reading. Nissan says to wait at least half an hour after the car has been turned off to try to read the oil.

i went to nissan for the oil consumption test and they changed my oil/filter and told me to come back in 1k miles. i was burning alot of oil before but ive driven about 500 miles on the oil nissan put in there and havent burned barely any. maybe a millimeter. what do you guys think happened? maybe they put thicker oil?

(the car was sitting all night. i checked the dipstick in the morning before i started it up)

^ This happened to me. I concluded they possibly overfilled me initially. Friend of mine had 10w-30 used in testing according to his W.O. and he was pissed.

I ignored their request to return at 1K on my second return visit. Long story as to why second visit and won't repeat.

I personally would return when you're a quart low. That's what I did second time and qualified. Just return anywhere before the 3750 mark. Read the TSB.

The oil will start consuming faster as it gets older from it's viscosity shearing due to continuous fuel dilute from OC blow-by. No matter what viscosity oil they used, if you have OC it will start consuming faster due to the above mentioned condition as it gets older and more miles. I told my friend to just wait, it'll start dropping and it did. Same with mine and we both have V2's now.

Could you possibly PM me any info you have? What's your name, where are you located, who at Nissan did you deal with and do you have any kind of case or reference number? Also, did they give you back what you paid, high book value, or some negotiated value? I'd like to be armed with as much info as possible when I call them in a few weeks. Thanks.

Just changed my oil at the 500 mi. mark. I'll see how this interval goes of 1000 mi with a very long trip coming up soon. Until then.....

Came out normal this time. Still had some metals in it, but nothing like at the 75 mile drain. Running the Amsoil oil filter now too.

Well so my first v2 was a total disappointment. I took it to the dealer yesterday for a 1,000 oil check. It consumed 17mm off the dipstick, so they are giving me a new v2. Nissan told me, the new engine will be the same serial number as the previous.
He said they would also send my engine back to Nissan, so that they test and figure out what is wrong with these FN engines.
I think Nissan already knows what s wrong with these engines. Maybe is a batch of engines that are defective however, they don’t know which ones have the problem so they just given you a new engine and wish you luck. They act upon their own economical interest.
This is very frustrating, I am starting to consider trading my Z for a 2008. This means, they would make more money off of me
I don’t know if continue to wait see if they actually come up with an engine that doesn’t drink up all the oil. Mean while wish me good luck that the new engine doesn’t give me any problems.

My V2 is consuming and under a comsumption test as we speak. I think they know what is wrong and are "managing" the financial impact by handling the issue the way we are seeing.

I thought it was normal for an engine to consume oil during the break-in?

My v2 consumed a little under a quart in the first 1500 miles. In the 4k miles after that, it hasn't consumed at all.

Also out of curiosity, how did you break it in?

They told me they ran the engine for about 30mins or so to make sure there were no leaks or anything. They took it for about a 5 mile test drive.

I changed my oil and filter after 225miles of driving (after v2 replacement) - This is what the oil looks like. Surprisingly dark after only 225 miles..

I am driving like a grandma. No hard acceleration, under 4k rpms (mostly under 3k), and I'm not even exceeding 50mph, no cruise control and if I am at a steady speed I shift gears and try to slow and accel a couple mph. I do occasionally and slowly get to about 3900 rpms, but, only maybe once every 50 miles or so. Very soft accelleration all the time. I really **** off people behind me ... sry.

I'm waiting for my BlackStone UOA kit to come in so I can submit it for testing.

So how many total miles are on the V2 since you've noticed this? 1000?
