RevUp Oil Consumption TSB and discussion
What's up Guys,
I've got an 05 Altima se with oil consumption issues and have gotten the brush off already from the dealership and it's under extended warranty up to 100k. Is this a know issue for other models as well?
On a side note, im looking for a Z as a summer car. Is it advisable to stay clear of the 05/06 revvup? If I purchase from a nondealer would nissan still replace the engine pending the issue is there?

sounds like you need to save that money to offset the difference in being upside down on your car when you trade it in on a pre 2005 G35 or pre 2006 (Non_Rev) Z....then add boost. After one motor I was completely upset and frurious. I wrote Infiniti and told them that this was totally unacceptable for a 40K sports coupe. I lucked out with a handbuilt VQ from Japan that doesnt burn any oil, even while SuperCharged.
If I were in your boat, Id buy an older car and play with it...newer cars are so much more expensive especially when you consider the payments...
I wount buy a 370 or a G37 because you can play with it. If you leave the car stock and only want to add wheels and stereo, then cool. But if you want exhaust intake boost ect....id go with an older platform.

Look at TSB on first page. Haven't memorize the OC chart as far as 'ok' or 'no good' /mm's

Dealer wouldn't "deal" on a new 370, and offered me nothing for my car in trade, as well as refusing to budge on retail, so ........... I am deciding just how bad this issue is and can I live with it. Last oil change on the V2, number 4, was the worst and the first that exceeded the TSB (used in excess of one quart). This oil change, with about 2400 miles into it, is about 2/3 to 3/4 quart, so it seems I am back to right at 1 quart between oil changes. What are your opinions. Do you think I will have longevity with this engine and continue to use in this range? Maybe settle down some and even consume less? Totally screw up and start consuming more? History here shows only 1 out of 5 oil changes exceeding a quart. I have about 20,000 miles on the new engine now. I believe Zeeforce stated his analysis showed he was still breaking in at 20,000. I need new tires soon and would like to put aftermarket wheels on the car, as well as upgrade the stereo. I hate to spend the bucks only to have the thing get worse on me. If the consumption stayed at about 1 quart between changes, I think I could live with that.

To keep or to boot the 350Z?
I would go for the buy back, get the attorney, you will probably get more with a buy back than a trade-in or private sale.
If you want to keep it to see if it’s going to improve, then try this:
1) Switch to Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30
2)Use Amsoil’s oil filter.
3)Clean the air filter or better yet replace it, stay with a paper air filter. If using stock air box, then best bet is Amsoil’s drop in PAPER air filter.
4)Check for any air leaks in the intake system, from the air box to the throttle body.
5)Have you performed the WOT procedure yet? If not search this thread for my post on it (it was not that long ago that I posted it).
6)Use Shell VPower gasoline
7)The last one will cost you (you can only get this from a used oil analysis (UOA) with Terry Dyson) sorry.

No offense guys, Dyson does great work. I am just swamped right now, work wise, and we shouldn't have to go through all this if Nissan had built a reliable engine here. But I appreciate all the support and suggestions, thanks!

First thoughts on the V2 in my car... SLOW
Its a good deal slower than my first engine. I had a stock clutch put it too (replaced a JWT) and that sucks too. I really cant stand to drive my car now.

oc test follow up
Follow up from my last post,
I am asking for some help. I took my 06 with 12k Miles for my first oc test. The car logged 915 miles for the test. According to dealer’s service record, THE OIL WAS 1.5 QUARTS LOW-and approximately 6MM on the stick. The dealer found the oil within the acceptable ranges. The oil was filled up and I was told to bring back in 1000 miles.
My question is simple. Is 6MM in the oil dip stick equivalent to 1.5 quarts? Is this within the “no good range?
Please advice,

1.5qts = 36mm.
6mm only = 1/4qt.

In the service invoice they point out the 1.5 qts. However, they do not make any notes on the MM measurements.
I looking forward as what the manager has to say about the test.

I do not what to say about West Covina Nissan. The service department manager did not get back to me today. I do not why? I asked nicely, that I had some questions regarding the oc test!
I will stop by the dealer to talk to him since he did not have the time to returned my phone calls.
