Put a magnet to them to verify if they are steel or aluminum. I'm guessing they are aluminum from tapping the upper pan

Tay, are those grooves in the shavings, or are those lines discoloration from high heat?

maybe your g/f stuck it in there to mess with you. j/k I'd kind of be worried too, but hey if nothing was wrong with it, the show must go on. Good luck on finding that out.

I've seen rod bearings get thinned out of shape like that due to a bad crankshaft. But never quite like that. If that was in your oil pan, i'd be worried. Yank the motor out and inspect everything. Good luck.

Looks like steel shavings. Too dark to be aluminum, IMO.
