Default First 1K with new transmision. RESULTS

Coming up on 1Kmi. on my replaced 03 tranny. Thought i'd share thoughts and get opinions. Replaced the original tranny at about 64K due to 5th gear grind.

Here' the update on the replacement; This tranny is alot notchy-er than the original. Double clutching happens a couple of times a day. Finnaly got used to the new clutch feel (harder and springy-er). 5th gear on this tranny is almost strait up from 4th. 6th is a hard pull by comparison.

Anyone elce experience the same after a replacement? Do these things need a brake in period to smooth out? Are the newer transmissions naturally nothy-er?

Thanks.

yes, you need to be gentle on the trans for at least 500 miles, you need to let things break in

You probably need to adjust the shifter.

which transmission did you get? I got the 009 and it was so easy, the 03 was way more notchy than this. and they come ready to go, no need to baby it or break it in (per the dealer that is) but I went easy on it and now I can shift real quick 1/2

The transmission gets less notchy with time in my experience. Might want to switch to synthetic fluids... helped IMO

it'll be on the work order or whatever they call it. I think 'CD009' is the newest

Yeah, switch to Royal Purple and put in an engine torque dampener; both will make your tranny much smoother to shift.

+1 royal purple worked wonders in my trans. i could hardly put my "new replacement trans" into 5th after they put it in. i swapped to royal purple, the problem was fixed instantly! kind of a bandaid i know, but it is still going strong 1.5 f/i-ed years later.

i am in your exact situation. I replaced my trans about 1500 miles ago @ 61,000 miles and also feel as if the trans is notchy and 5th is a little further to the left than my stock tranny was. I got used to is though and it seems as if the notchyness is starting to fade

The reverse lockout plate was most likely not aligned during reinstall. Unscrew/remove the shift ****. Pull the plastic panel around the shifter up. Remove the 4 10MM bolts that hold the rubber weather boot to the chassis. Underneath this is a plate with 3 bolt holes in it. Lossen all the 10mm bolts. Put the shifter into sixth gear. Bring the guide plate next to the claw that sits off the right side of the shifter so that is lightly touches the claw. Tighten the botton right bolt. Shift to fifth, align the plate to lightly touch the claw again. Tighten top bolt. Tighten bottom left bolt. Check to make sure that reverse lockout still functions properly. I've found that leaving a small sliver between the lockout plate and the claw instead of actually touching the plate makes for a better "feel" but be sure to check that the reverse lockout is still working.
