Default What should I do for a LSD SWAP

can someone tell me what I need do and what I need to take out for a LSD swap, my friend just crashed his Z, and insurance is payoff his car, he is asking me do I need any parts. Mine is the base model, and his is the track model. Do I just open the rear diff oil cover and take out the parts, or do I have to remove the whole rear axle ( the middle part that connect the shaft and both side of the axle that links to the wheels?). Thanks

So when I take out the pumpkin, do I need to take out the rear axle also from my friends car to mine, to complete the swap??

Nope, just unbolt your axles from the output shafts, and drop the pumpkin. The new pumpkin will bolt right up...and reattach the axles.

I am obviously simplifing this. But its a simple swap.

They will both fit just fine, but the auto diff has the 3.3 lower final drive. On an NA car, that would you make you really slow.

I wasn't aware that you could get the Track model in an auto.

You can't. Maybe it's a GT?

At any rate, what was said above is key; you don't want to put the whole diff from an AT into your MT. You'll need to pull both diffs, dissassemble both and swap in just the LSD, which will be very tme consuming and expensive to have done. Not a DIY unless you really know what you're doing. It prob wouldn't cost all that much more just to buy an afermarket diff (which will be much better than the OEM VLSD) and have it installed in your car.

so if I were to go to a junk yard and find a Z that had the LSD i could just grab the whole pumpkin and just swap it in? I'm dying to get LSD but dont have the cash to buy an aftermarket unit right now.

Yes, just make sure it has the same type of tranny as your car and look for one with little or no rear end damage.
