Default 05 Rev-up question

is there any physical differences in appearance that can distinguish a rev-up engine from a non rev-up engine? I heard that in late 05 moving forward the Z's came with rev-ups instead of the non rev-ups.

A buddy of mine has a body shop and has a slightly used 05 engine that came out of a wrecked Z and if it's non rev-up I may buy it as a backup engine. My car is a 03 Performance and I want to make sure it would work if needed. I also have a 6MT and this engine was bolted to an AT.. do I have any worries there?

He also has the gauges that came out the car so if the RPM redline range is a clear indicator as to whether its a rev-up or not, I could always look at this as well.

Any help is appreciated.

One more question. He has a lot of parts that came out of this car for sale. complete black interior, bose system, leather seats with airbags, and misc parts that I am thinking about posting on here for sale.. I was going to make a post to see who may be interested in what parts but I wont have a price on these items until after the weekend. I know the marketplace requires you to state prices in the posts so I can't post this "What are you interested in" post there. any ideas?

I think I found the answer... being that this car was a 05 AT, it would not have had the rev-up correct?

My questions still stand as far as if I will have any issues with the swap if ever needed though. As well as the potential sale of the parts.

If it was an auto its not a revup. You can use non revup heads on a revup though and the other way around.

so I can do a complete engine swap if ever needed? I am getting a killer deal on this engine and don't want to pass on it if it would work in my car with nothing more than just labor involved.

this engine is just sitting in the back of my buddy's body shop collecting dust. 6K miles.. I haven't spoken to him in a few years and we ran into each other the other day. He owe's me from back in the day and I can get this for little to nothing.. but I don't want to get it if I can't use it...

All the of the VQ35de engine blocks are the same that are in the 350z from 2003-2006, as are the FX35 blocks, And G35 blocks. A FWD Vq35de will also bolt up to a rear drive tranny (The motor mounts are diffrent though). The revup heads are the only diffrence in the 2005 MT models and 2006 in all models. The easy way to see if its a revup it will have sensors in the back of each head for the variable cams. But yes the engine will work in a 2003 with no problem if it is not a revup. So you can use the engine and should buy it, at least you could use it for a core charge on a built engine.

A engine that comes from a MT will bolt up to an auto and the other way around.
