So lets say you are going to run a 7,500-10,000 mile interval with Motul, RL, GC, Amsol etc, whats your guys take on changing the oil filter in between their some where say 5k or so?

All this talk about oil.....what about filters? Or should that be a different thread? I have used M1 5/30 since 7500 miles and have had oil consumption issues for the last 20K miles.

I'm getting my car ready to get it out of storage. So I went to auto zone, pep boys and walmart and none of them had GC. I have been using M1 since the car was new and I have 60k on it. Ive always used at least a quart of oil. So I decided to also stop with the M1. I ended up buying royal purple 5w30 at pep boys. Should I of bought 10w30?

How is the regular castrol syn 5w30? That the sell at autozone.

Only one question is really bothering me

Does frequency "in term of period" affects on the engine?

I'm using M1 and you know I don't change the oil somewhere before 5,000+miles, but some times I go for three month or more without putting this mileage on my car, and as far as I hear that the oil shouldn't last for more than 3 month, actually I'm not sure that's why I am asking

phucking great, i just put Mobil 1 "full synthetic" (5w-30) in my car! Looks like I'll be going with something else in 3k... maybe Valvoline synthetic or Amzoil... NAPA sells amsoil by the case (12).

LOL!! Check out Mobil's website... nice car!

No. What I wrote earlier:

derek173, I think you should have checked your sources a little better before posting this here, and even better- just posted a link to the oil drop forum to discuss this there.
The cliff notes version is that nobody really knows what, if anything, M1 did to change their base stock. There is no proof that they have changed to a Group III base stock and no longer use a PAO. Some people believe Mobil did change the base stock, and cite their own tests as proof. Those that believe Mobil has changed seem to favor the theory that it is now a PAO, POE, AN, G3+ base stock. Most of the arguments are good ones, and this is still a good combination of base stocks, if it's true. Mobil has been unable, or unwilling, to confirm any changes one way or another in their base stock for M1. Their lack of any defense or comment seems to be the strongest case against them, although no manufacturer is obliged to disclose such information, and even CAS numbers are becoming proprietary and vanishing from bottles. There is no record or proof that has been found of any actual case involving M1 taking Castrol to court over the use of the term "Synthetic" for it's group III oils. It is possible a arbitrator handled the issue, if there ever was one between the two companies....

I tried to read most of this thread, but I probably missed some info. I have been using M1 and am also experiencing the quart/3K miles consumption.

I just called several Autozones in my area and they tell me they no longer carry the 0W-30 Castrol Syntech.

It seems the general opinion on a second choice is Amsoil. What weight do you recommend there? 0W-30 as well?

Its the most common that will work for our car. 10w is also mentioned for hto weather use. I think they recommend non-syn oil also.
