I sent in my green german castrol in a last week... I should be getting the results anytime now. I sprung for the TBN for the first time.

Is there another store that might carry a 5qt bottle or something? $8.49 per qt sucks.... maybe i have been to spoiled with buying a 5qt of m1 5-30 for $22 at wallyworld?
haha, i feel ya there. it is brutal paying $60 an oil change. i couldnt find it any cheaper or anywhere else for that matter. Im using only the nissan oil filter on it though, from what ive heard from asking around its the best one for it. something or another with a bypass valve or something in it cant remember exactly. if it helps at all autozone gives a 10% discount to military
why 6qts? isnt it only five? im about to change the oil on it for the first time since ive had the car about a month now

Castrol Syntec and Mobil 1 are both on sale at Autozone this month here in Jersey. It involves a 5 qt deal. I believe the Castrol comes with a Fram silver (tough guard?) filter and the Mobil 1 comes with a matching M1 filter. The price range is about $28 and $29 for each respectively. What I did was buy 5 qts of GC 0W-30 for mine and 5 qts of Mobil 1 0W-40 for my wife's car. I made sure to get the M110 filter my car and the Fram for hers lol. I've used both types of filters for at least 5,000mi each without any problems. I'm just being a little picky with mine since the choice was available.

I went with the german made Castrol "black edge" 0w-30 and M-108 Filter from Mobil One.

Other than noticing the oil pressure was a tad higher at idle and WOT I havent noticed a huge difference... But, I just bought this Z and the previous owner was using mobil 1 Race oil 0w-30.

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ing_0W-30.aspx

It says not for street use.. but it looked nearly brand new at 3500 miles and there was no metal in the pan or filter.. Does anyone know of any side effects of using that oil on the street?

I haven't been on this forum in about 9 months. Maybe longer. I haven't processed any UOA's since then either. My old computer's HD died and I didn't have the latest UOA stuff backed up, so it's gone. Thankfully, my work (the important stuff) was backed up and my business has only grown and become busier. Hence, no time for forums or UOA analysis. Formulations change so quick, I don't have time to give to this hobby any more.

If anything, hopefully some people have learned not to believe advertising hype and see that there are a lot of great oils and very little statistical difference between them when UOAs are compared. The biggest outliers came from people running oils designed for racing use on the street. A UOA is especially (and primarily) useful for determining a good oil chnage interval with the particular oil a person runs.

Thanks for coming back, Resolute, good news you kept all your work data.

I get the same feeling from Blackstone, that all the good name oils are pretty much all the same in the UOA.

Well, as I mentioned before, my Mac's HD died and a lot of my automotive hobby stuff was lost and I also became extremely busy with work & family. Things have settled down a bit and taking a look at this old thread, I decided to check my photobucket account. I haven't used it in about a year or so, and as it turns out, I had a lot of my oil images stored there. So, I updated the first page of the thread with lots of new images, including one of the last oil comparison charts I made. Enjoy!

Yeah, thanks, it's a much better way of laying out those tables.

I can now see at a glance, that my choice of PP and Castrol Syntec were both good ones

Sheesh.... I go to a very reputable Nissan dealer in Thousand Oaks CA, they charge me $34 for an oil change and according to them they use Mobil 1 5w30 conventional. Talked to the tech and service manager about the type of oil they recommend because of all this talk about people going with fully synthetic oils, and they said this is just fine for my 06 Z with 60k on it. Change it every 3k miles, goes through 1/4 of a quart and motor feels absolutely fine lol. I've been thinking about trying a synthetic oil, though. But I hear once the motor has been using a particular kind of oil for a while, it's bad to switch to something else. In my case, all these miles on conventional oil, it would be a bad move on my end to switch to a synthetic. Is this true?

If you switch to synthetic, the dead will rise and walk the earth.

Mobil 1 is synthetic btw unless it was Mobil Super. Chances are you are worrying about nothing.

Running any kind of race oil in a street car is pretty much the stupidest thing you can do. The reason it comes out 'clean' is because it leaves all the sludge and carbon inside the engine instead of suspending it.

^this. I switched to synthetic at 160k miles and have been on it with no issues - now at 178k miles. Maybe I'm just lucky though.

Sorry, should have added this a little while ago. Switched to Castrol Syntec (new one) after this oil, wanted a slightly 'thicker' 5w30.

have a brand new DE in my '03, 2k miles. Already had it's first track day a few days ago, gonna change the oil in a couple days. Recomendations ? I was thinking to stick with Castrol Dino based oil for now, go synthetic around 6k.
