Thought I should share these with you guys...

My car is a 2003 350z (base).

The oil used for this report was Mobil 1 5w-30, with a Fram oil filter.

The oil used for this report was also Mobil 1 5w-30, with a Bosch oil filter.

I'm now running on AMSoil 5w-30 with a Wix filter. I'll update once I get the report for that.

Why does almost no online retailer sell AMSoil? Not on Amazon or eBay or any other big retailer.

After reading I understand the best options are the Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30, Mobile1 5W-30 or AMSoil 5W-30.

Any results on Redline 5W-30?

Amsoil has its own marketing program and only sells through its own network. You're sure to find a local retailer (but no discounts) if you just do a little searching.

Try re-reading those results again. Many VQ owners had good-to-excellent results using Castrol GC 0-30W and Mobil 1 0-40W. Redline didn't fare as well in most of the UOAs submitted. Not sure about their 5w-30, but it seems to be a good product for racing, not so much for street use.

I decided that I'm going to go with the Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 full synthetic.

It is superior in many places or among the top performing in the Blackstone report I read.
The only thing is some of the other high performance oil (I think it was Motul or Mobile1) had a slightly higher flash point, but I don't think it will affect anything and the Pennzoil scores very well in other areas.

I had a good report from my Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, so i don't think you can go wrong there.

(I wouldn't touch the Mobil1 (seriously))

I've been using M1 5W-30 since about 6000 miles on my Z (75,xxxx now). I haven't seen any oil usage between oil changes. I did replace my valve covers due to oil in the spark plug holes. I was reading about problems with Mobil 1. Should I stay with it? I'm only putting about 3000 miles on my car a year, so I change every 3000 miles.

Well, it's a little thin, as you're practically not driving the car, it's probably fine, if you'd like to change, PP is a good choice.

I picked up the Pennzoil Platinum at Walmart today. I'm due to change the oil in a couple of weeks. It was the same price as Mobil 1. I didn't see any of the Ultra at Walmart.

Run some RP 5w-30 oil and a good filter, do your regular oil changes and forget about it. A good oil is the life of your Z so why not put one of the best oils on the market in it.

I don't have the numbers off hand but they are close to the other good name oils out there. Since I made this change I did notice that the ticking noise at first start-up is gone also I up graded my cams since going FI and didn't see wear and the heads appear to be clean. so the oil is doing the job. also why "Bosch" filters? Do you have numbers to show why this brand is better then the others.

I've just been going through my UOE's as i have some more and they're up to date now. Whilst i don't think it was the driving style at the time, Castrol Syntec (new stuff) was really bad, and showed bad ring wear metals in the UOE.

Castrol Edge was good, but used a lot as it's really thin, Castrol GTX runs really well and PP is probably the best.

So this thread hasn't seen much use in awhile so I figured I'd post a question.

Last week I did and oil change with 4 quarts of Royal Purple 5w-30 and 1 quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. I added the oil stabilizer to keep my timing chain from dragging on start-up until the oil pressure got to the tensioner and right now it has gotten rid of that problem.

But it raised my oil pressure to 30 psi at idle 60 psi at 2000 rpms and 100 psi at 6000 after it is fully warmed up.

Is this high of oil pressure a problem and since I live in Blacksburg, Va will the added viscosity of the stabilizer a problem for the occasional winter temperatures of sub zero.

Castrol Syntec in mine burnt pretty easily, i've tried a few oils, but the best (per UOA) have been GTX, PP and technically some 5w40 Rotella.

A lot lower than that, 30psi at idle sounds way too high (if i'm remembering right) for a fully up to temp engine.

So I have been reading through this tread for the past hour or so and the consensus seems to be Pennzoil Platinum. I can't seem to see any results on the Pennzoil Platinum Ultra.

Does anyone know if this stuff is actually better and have some test results?

Thanks,
-Michael
