Default Variable Valve Timing Research

I spent Saturday morning on the dyno doing some VVT (variable valve timeing) research. I got about 15 pull in with a mixture of no cam timing, stock cam timing, and 'aggressive' cam timing.

I won't have all the data sorted for a few days, but I definately saw some interesting things. As soon as the dyno owner Emails me the dyno charts I'll be able to compile the data and post some info.

In the mean time, what do you guys think will happen when running aggresive cam timing? How about no cam timing (this was interesting)?

No cam timing you lose alot of low end.

Thats the exact opposite of what we saw.

With cam timing disabled nothing changed until about 5500RPM or so, then HP slowly trailed off.

Hopefully I'll get the dyno charts today.

Strange i remember reading about a guy that used a megasquirt on a vq35de to 240sx swap and using the megasquirt he lost the cam timing and said he lost low end tq and hp. about 20-30hp and tq. Is this a revup?

VTC disabled = full retard = loss of low-end and mid-range.

Period.

How exactly did you disable the cam timing? I've seen evidence that directly contradicts your findings from dyno's to MAF voltage datalogs.

Sorry for the delay, I have three logs for each run, and 14 pulls. I found some misleading numbers in my Cypher logs and I wanted to research them. I thought that the cam angle had been read wrong by Cypher, but it turns out that the cam timing wasn't being modified the way I had thought. I could go 'full advance' but I wasn't controlling the retard like I should have been.

I've fixed the problem (for the most part) and have a bit more testing to do before strapping it to the dyno again. Should hopefully be within the next 2 weeks.

I seriously doubt there will be any surprises here.
