I searched and couldn't find the answer. The FSM doesn't state a difference in oil pumps between the two motors so what is it. The have the same specs for oil pressure. Is it really necessary for revving to 72-7500 rpm?
The rev up pump doesnt necessarily flow anymore volume of oil, but it was designed for higher RPM operation. It's cheap insurance when building an engine.
Do you run any risk by revving into the 7's without it? It's alot of labor time if your not doing anything else to the engine.
I would venture to say no. OPs have changed little, in all engines in the last 40 years. Up Grades are generally Higher Volumn or Higher Pressure. I would say that they may have gone with a Higher Volumn Pump, Higher Pressure would be of little use and never has been the way to go.
If they are interchangable, do it if you build the motor, but I just cant see doing it as a single mod
