Default engine break in questions

ive searched and did not find any solid engine break in threads. the manual says dont rev over 4k and wait till 1200 miles. Nissan dealership said im fine to open it up new if i want because there broken in from factory.

i drove easy and under 4k rpm until 800 miles. then i raced it a couple times (only mod was exhaust which was put on at 750 miles) at around 800 miles on the odo. but ive gone easy on it since with now 900 miles.

could i have harmed the engine at all or an im okay?

the only problem is the pressure from my friends. they were lining up with me at every light trying to make me go with them but i was able to at least wait till 800 miles to go full throttle. i couldnt take it anymore. lol

thanks guys for any info and advice

car should be ok, if you want to be safe, follow the manual. but if you can't fight the urge, then go WOT on your friends.

Plus I found about 5 others and I didn't go through all 8 pages of results.
Just putting it out there.
Hope this helps.

The manual states keep it under 4k RPM's for the first 1200 miles, but keep the revs varied (not constant). This was an issue for me, because I bought my car in Miami and drove it back up to NJ (95 all the way up from Miami to NJ).

So in order to try and accommodate, I made some alterations to it. Whenever I passed someone on the highway, I shifted up and then down to somewhat keep the revs varied. Also, after the first 300 miles, I went up to 5000 RPM's, after the first 600 miles, went up to 6000 RPM's, then after 900 miles, I let her rip a few times and stopped worrying about constantly shifting.

Almost 42k miles later, I have had no issues. The VQ is a solid engine, don't worry about reving it hard early. You won't hurt anything.

The most important time to break in is within the first 30 miles. Thats when I do a lot of my WOT runs. I got my first oil change at 100 miles to get rid of all the metal deposits. Now the motor is very stout.

+1 WOT in the first 30 miles will help seat the rings. I also did my first oil change at 100 miles to get rid of the break-in crap in the oil... Then again at 600ish...

I broke in my VQ the same way I broke in all my Honda race engines. I drove it like i stole it, making sure to go up and down the entire rpm range. There are alot of different opinions on proper break in but my 06 revup pulls strong and doesnt burn any oil.

few WOT runs won't do you any harm, but i've kept it under 5K so far, and I have to fight the urge sometimes too to not go over that.

First, you shouldn't rely on what a salesperson says. There has been threads on all the dumb things said by and the surprising ignorance level of many selling the cars.

Second, you should never go by what your friends say. A costly mishap by you is just another diversion to them. If you trust their judgement more than your own at these times, let them drive your car.

Nissan made the cars and wrote the manual. I'd follow it to be safe, but that doesn't mean these cars won't take most of what owners dish out.

There are always some people who will risk whether or not there were 5 or 6 shots fired.

If you buy a car with more than 5 miles on it from the dealer, it has more than likely been abused on a test drive anyway.

its funny cause everyone says to follow the manual according the breakin because nissan knows what they're doing yet what about all the oil burning and leaking problems with these engines and it's probably with people following the owners manual. I do the hard break in method on everything and never burn or leak oil.

An easy break-in is probably the worst thing you can do to a young engine.

agree and seems to be the same thought with all the tuners and builders that I trust to know their stuff.
