Checking oil consumption on 2006
Ok guys just got done checking my oil after 3,000 miles. I have been checking it every 1,000 miles since getting the oil changed and it has dropped each time. Now my question is how much oil does the High to low mark on the dipstick measure. To my knowledge it is 1 quart. If so mine is a little below the halfway mark after 3,000 miles. If the dispstick does infact acct for 1quart of oil then my oil consumption is not substantial. To my knowledge all high performance engines burn some oil.

search police my a$$. I read the complete oil consumption thread a couple of weeks ago. There is no way i am going back and reading that sucker
I know 1/2 a quart of oil consumption is reasonable, basically my question is about how much does the oil dipstick measure?

My question to LG is why it would be OK for someone to have to add oil between their accustomed changes when you do not? Even if the OP doesn't have to add now, isn't it the norm that engines use more oil as they go up in mileage. Is it OK that he may need to add between changes when his car gets to 50K miles, but you won't. Shouldn't Nissan be selling a standardized product so people know what to expect with their purchase? Food for thought.
Brought my 06 in for a check up and an oil change Friday. I asked how you can read the dipstick; it is roughtly 1 qaurt between the lines. The dealer stated that unless you have no oil on the dipstick, you're technically not running low - "1 quart per 3k is normal for this performance car. If you tend to run it harder, you will notice a larger difference on the oil levels."
i think its their standard answer...

I have always treated 1qt per 3000 miles as acceptable oil consumption on motors, even in my high compression honda days. With all the problems being documented on the revup (hence my search comment which was targeted at others besides the op) half a quart every 3k miles is to be expected on a motor such as ours. I too experienced a minute amount of oil consumption until switching to a 10w-30 oil, and have not experienced any loss since.
I agree that Nissan needs to sell standardized products and that the revup is questionable, however, I would never expect to buy a relatively high compression sports car motor and have zero oil consumption.

My opinion on the oil consumption issue is that the ring tolerances on some of the motors are too loose.
We used to build the honda b motors with loose rings to keep the top end smooth when rev'ing past 9k rpm. I feel that nissan had this in mind when designing the revup and failed poorly. Again this my opinion only, but theres no way its a computer issue since only 10% or less of the revups out there burn oil. And its also why the Nissan North America ECU tweak did not work.
