Default griding noise in engine bay

i have an 03 6mt... When the car is cold and i hold the clutch while starting it there is a terrible grinding noise just after the car starts for 2 seconds or so in the engine bay area(most likely trans. area). If i start the car and immediatley let go of the clutch as soon as it starts the noise doesnt happen. This leads me to believe it has something to do with the clutch/trans.
If anyone has any ideas what this may be i appreciate it. Thanks

Didi they check the clutch's master & slave cylinders??? I had a similiar problem, they replaced the tranny and the clutch's master & slave cylinders. Problem solved!!

occasionally my Z with do this. I describe it more of a chatter upon starting the car cold.

I've read up on it being a butterfly vavle. If remember correctly it is caused from the oil not circulating fast enough to the top of the block when starting cold. If you search for engine chatter you might find something. Many say it's the transmission/clutch but i think it's a manufacturing flaw that occurs in many Nissan automobiles. A friend of mine has a 2.5 Altima that does the same thing. Also my mom's 3.5 Maxima does the same thing on cold start's occasionally.
