Let it idle.

Just curious.

You don't HAVE to, but if you have been abusing the engine an have hot oil, it isn't a bad idea to let it cool itself so that oil doesn't cook in the turbo.

Just drive normally and stay out of boost for a couple of minutes before you stop and it'll be fine.

It's all dependant on how long you drive the car, and how hard you push it. A 20-30 minute drive, and hitting the gas a few times will result in about 1 minute of letting it cool. As VQ pointed out, a turbo timer is best if you have a turbo, since it automatically knows how long to leave the car on before turning off according the the drive you just had, and it will automatically turn off the engine..

Also, VQ, why do you need a Turbo timer? Secret plan for the Z or Maxima?

Best if let the engine idle to cool the turbo off, but 5 mins seems to be a little too long. I set mine on 1 1/2 mins and 3 mins for my Eclipse.

Leaving the engine running lets the oil circulate and cool down. Turning off a turbo charged engine after the engine has been run hard lets the oil cook and burn (a process called oil coking) in the turbo leaving burnt oil deposits in the turbo. Eventually the bearings will wear out and then you will have a blown turbo and you will be back to Normally aspirated cruising

I just try to stay out of boost for the last mile or so where ever I'm going, and it's been fine for years. I tend to think that this was a greater issue before turbos had liquid cooling. Nowadays, it's rare to find one without liquid cooling!

The stock turbo on my 84 SVO did NOT have liquid cooling, just to give an approximate idea about when they started in production cars. The mid-year 85 and 86 SVOs do have it. I picked up a liquid cooled one and put in the lines for it and I don't really even think about it in normal street driving now.

Hey I am falling behind here in the Engine Mod forum.

Why does it say VQ Racer is banned?

Did I miss something?

Greddy has a single turbo out for the 350Z now right?

Just trying to get caught up, been working allot.

Still looking for the US version of the Apexi SAFCII
