Tonight I reallized that my car was making a strange sound. If i got up to say 3,000rpms in second gear and let it decelerate down it would start making a strange rattling type of sound at about 2300 rpms down to about 1800. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? It's also been "shuttering" a little with the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts under like 3/4 throttle... Any input would be greatly appreciated

I just drove to school this morning and the sound seems to be coming from the rear and it only seems to do it when the transmission/car is warmed up (after about 10 minutes of driving)

I think you were supposed to change it at 30k. Many change earlier (and it's well worth it). Wait till you see what comes out... Put in some amsoil or redline and see if the noise goes away. Hopefully nothing is broken...
yes, the rear diff connects the driveshaft to the rear axles.
there is a great DIY guide either here or on G35driver. It is very easy to do if you have the right tools (the tools are cheap too). 20 mins on jackstands. remember to replace the crush washer (some people just reuse the old one, but you can order it online from some of the nissan sponsors on this site - the part # is in the DIY)
and flushing the tranny fluid (dealership needs to do this as they have a special machine to pump fluid in/out) is a good precaution as well. the recommendation is every 2 yrs for that. or a drain and refill every year.

Q45tech: in your experience will putting on an aftermarket magnetic tranny filter extend tranny life - just wondering why a filter does not come standard/OEM - since it's the metal shavings and debris that accumulate with wear and tear that can block passages and result in failure.

well I took it to the shop and it seems to be nothing but the intake shield vibrating at that particular rpm range. Guess i freaked out about nothing. Oh well better safe than sorry
