Default Loud cement mixer noise in 1st gear (06)

Hiho,
please excuse my bad english.
I own a 06 Z with now ca. 2500km.

If the Z is "warm" it makes a really loud metallic noise when i drive it in 1st gear (no matter slow/fast). I've read about the cement mixer sound, when the engine is idling. Thats not the same with my car, the noise is very loud when driving in 1st (it's a really big cement-mixer!).
In 2nd gear the noise disapears at 2500rpm.
If the engine/transmission is cold theres no such noise.

The transmissions seems to work well, only shifting into 2nd gear is sometimes a little bit tricky (sometimes theres a "clong"-sound when shifting).

I've searched the forums but can't get a hint.
The dealer said it's a normal Z-tranny-sound, but can not be true because i've heard 2 other Z that did'nt make such noises.

Whats your experience or hint? Is this really a "normal" Z-noise?

Thanks in advance!

Hi ke0ki2k,
with the same difference between cold/warm engine?

The noise is really loud and sounds alarming. Now that the engine has run about 2500km it's time to spend a little more gas but not with this noise from underneath....
I always try to shift as soon as possible from 1st to 2nd just to avoid this frightening mixer sound...

Hello and welcome to nissan. This noise is quite normal and just means your 350z is working properly.

Hiho 97supratt,
thanks.
I like most things watching, driving and listening my Z, but this noise is really bad. Is it really a "usual" noise? Man, it hurts... and i'm sure it hurts my Z also somewhere deep within...

There's actually a metal to metal noise thats bad. It happened to both my 06 and now my 07'. It usually happens when you launch really hard and the car wheel hops violently. By the time you let go of the throttle the damage has been done. It's a stupid move by nissan for making the rear bushings so soft to cause this.

Take it in and have a tech test drive it, if it is the same metal to metal noise i'm referring to then the transmission has to be replaced. Basically, stay in first gear around 4k rpm it will be so loud, you cannot hear your exhaust system anymore. If this is exactly the same boat you're in then take it into your local nissan dealer to get it checked out by a tech.

Oh thanks 97supratt,
you describe the noise very well. In fact the exhaust can't be heard if i drive the Z in the 1st gear by around 4000 rpm. The noise starts as soon i accelerate in 1st gear (slow/fast, no matter) and it's getting worse/louder with every rpm.
Hmm, as i told you the noise disapears in the 2nd gear above ca. 2500 rpm.
Shifting is ok.

If the car is "cold" i can't hear the cement mixer, only when it's warm.
But why? Could too less transmission-oil be the fact?

Man... such a nice car... it hurts!

On thursday there will be a 1st little checkup with oil-change, i'll ask my dealer again to check this frightening noise... and i'll report!

Make sure to take it in when the vehicle is very warm and the noise is actually happening because you want them to replicate it. If they can't replicate it, then they won't fix it.

Hi,
had the 1st oil-change. The dealer said again, that this sound is normal.
He told me, that two other customers had the same problem and they changed the tranny-oil (higher viscosity). The noise is now almost unnoticeable. I'll give it a try.
