Default Nismo Pilot Bearing discussion...

I am about to have a JWT clutch and flywheel installed in my G35. I ordered the Nismo Pilot bearing to be installed also. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Nismo bearing. Is there any significant advantage having this roller bearing vs. the factory one piece part?

Im not real sure. Those are the kinds of questions I was hoping would get answered. I posted this over here on My350Z vs. G35driver thinking more people would be making this mod to a 350z...

I bought one, but didn't use it. I've heard bad things about the rollers coming loose.

There would be little difference ----All pilots are either sintered bronze or roller and I have never been partial to one or the other----Dont lube the sintered one, it will loose its built in lubing ability---Hi Temp, synthetic on the roller is good

The Nismo pilot bearing is more prone to failure and I doubt it provides any benefits. I think the standard brass bushing should be fine.

The thing with the roller is....if it fails, then you have a mess and NO pilot, where as with the sintered bronze....Theres nothing to fail really, it just wears out over a long period of time with very little indication there is even a problem.

IMHO, this is the least likely point of failure on any clutch/trans system. I havent seen a bad one yet, even after some serious abuse. Just go stock...why take a chance, on something with possibly zero performance or longevity benefit. Just my opinion.

Your opinion is justified....Also, the rollers are a Biatch to get out at times, where as the bronze, all you do is pack it with grease and pop it with your pilot aligner center installed in it and it comes out. It pressurizes the grease and the grease pushs it out

Just my $.02. I have used them for years and we even had one in a track car for ~2 years and countless tranny removals and reinstalls and the bearing never failed.

I don't think it is the end all mod for the car and probably doesn't make a big difference but I also have not seen any negative issues with using them for the last 5 years or so.
