Default '06 6th Gear Grind?

My '06 Z (12k miles) is developing a nice 6th gear grind. Right now, it only grinds when I skip shift from 4 to 6, or sometimes 3 to 6 (if I run thrid gear to a high enough speed).

Is skip shifting the cause of this? It didn't do it previously, but it sure does now. Is anyone else experiencing a similar situation? Has anyone gone to the dealership over this situation? What were your results?

If you can duplicate the problem, bring it to dealer and have them look at it. They should throw you a new tranny under warranty.

Have you done anything about it? Under warranty?

Mine does the same thing ONLY when I skip from 4 to 6. If I clutch it, release the clutch pedal, then clutch it again there is no problem. I think it may just be the synchros lining up. But I dont know much about trannys so...

Sounds like a synchro' problem (probably a defective transmission). Take it to the dealer and demonstrate the problem. They will probably elect to install a new tranny. They will need to order a new tranny and get permission from Nissan to do the warranty work. That takes about 5-7 days. Installation takes only 2-4 hours.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the responses. My question is, will dealerships let you drive them around and exhibit the problem?

For those who have had their transmission replaced because of a bad synchro, how bad was the grind when you went to the dealership? Right now it grinds 50 percent of the time, or when i shift quickly, but not all the time.

^^ My grinding only happened when shifting quickly. Sounds as though you have the same problem. Your dealer can duplicate the problem easily. They won't "hassle" you on this one. It's a known problem that Nissan wants to repair.
