Default My oil pressure is high on my new Z.

My Z has about 200 miles now and I keep it in the garage most of the time.
I try to start it every 3 days and run the engine for 10min. Just know I did my normal routine when I notice that at idle my oil pressure was at about 60psi.When I rev the engine to 4000rpm it goes up to 120psi. So I went ahead and drove the car and it dropped a little at acceleration. Once it was at 4000rpm pressure was at 90psi. I havent really driven hard because of the 1500 mile break in period. But I went ahead and stepped on it. Man it really halls a**.I took it on 1st-3rd gear to 7000rpm and chirpped every gear. The oil pressure did go down at idle after that and at 7000rpm it was 100psi. Is this normal. Please let me know if I should take it to the dealer.

Thanks

Sounds high, but it could just be the sending unit for the gauge.

Mine is the same. I have an 03 and at startup op is at around 65psi. As the car warns up it will drop to around 20-30. I have always let my car warm up before i drive it and I actually use the op as my tach in the mornings. Just **** I guess but I wont let it get much over 60 before shifting. once she's warmed up though its wot every chance I get. 50k on the clock and it has been like this since new.

Your observations are a good reason why you should NOT start your car an let it run for 10 minutes.

1) On a cold start, the oil is thicker, so flow is restricted, Thats the reason the pressure is high on startup.

2) If you start an engine, but do not drive it long enought to bring the oil temp up to about 220, you are simply creating condensates that don't get boiled off, and contaminate the oil.

So what your saying is not to start my car every now and then. Then I should drive the car instead if letting it idle for 10min to lubricate the engine right?

Right. And you probably need to drive it more than 10 minutes. As I said, the engine needs to come up to, and operate, at full temp so the condensate in the oil pan can be boiled off.

There is no good reason to start it, just to be starting it.

I don't know if this is really true as there are cars that don't ever get above 220 in normal driving. The C6 Z06 is one of them.

after loking for german castrol for the last 2 moths I never found it,so i give up,so I went with Amsoil.Yesterday after the oil change I notice that when I go over 3000 rpm the pressure shoot to 120 psi , so now I am paranoid about that.Today I went to autozone and I found 0W 30 german castrol(made in Germany),so I bouth 2 oil change of oil.Now I dont know if I change the oil again.

Sump oil temperature is miniscule compared to oil in bearing or oil under middle ring temperature.

220F sump can show 260-310F at hot spots.

Most oils are worthless at 100F and don't really begin until 140F as to measured lubricity.............why no flogging until warmed to temperature.
