tranny diagnosis!
Ok folks here's what happened..at the strip..first time in this car..clutch went away....
Pedal engages hydraulics and can see full swing of clutch fork inside tranny. I removed the slave cylinder, removed the rubber boot and reinstalled the slave cylinder and had the wife fully engage and disengage clutch to be able to see this.
I can see the fork swing fully compressing and decompressing the clutch cover.
If you try to drive the car its as if there is no clutch at all. in other words it wont disengage to shift into gear...I can "jam" it into 3rd gear and it will buck and drive then can shift into forth with no clutch..
So I am thinking it has a bad throwout bearing or something came loose, although there is nothing that I can hear "rolling" around in the bottom.
I did remember hearing a "rattle" that was indicative of the throwout bearing last week when I came back after a drive. I may be answering my own question here...but am looking for someone who has had this issue before..
So will a bad bearing not allow the engagement of the clutch? The last Z I had apart for a clutch was in 1990 in my old 240Z.
Please shed some light on this if you can..
Thanks
Tom

Can you see that the fork is moving the throwout bearing?
Is the fork bent?
Is it possible the fork is broken or bent where it attaches to the throwout bearing?
Can you see the area on the pressure plate where the bearing pushes against? I've seen these fingers break.
Also, I have seen the springs fail on the pressure plate.
You might just have to take it all apart to see what is wrong.
Attached are some pics. I hope they help.

oh and sorry..this is a Spec Stage lll aluminum flywheel and clutch.
450+whp car as well..
The way I was roasting tires in the first 3 gears..there is no way the clutch is burnt...

Let me ask you this...should there be any gap at all between the pressure plate and the fork? Because it looks like the forks lays directly against the pressure plate tines...It looks like I'll be pulling the tranny this week...with an aftermarket clutch over a grand wouldnt it come with a new fork, bearing etc and wouldn't this stuff be stronger than stock??
ok so anything special I need to know about pulling the tranny? any tips? top bellhousing bolts; how hard are they??

My throwout bearing was bad and I still had clutch engagement.
Just replaced it the other day in fact.
I would be very impressed if the fork was bent since it seems to be quite sturdy.

I have engagement but not full engagement. ahve to pull apart and replace my t /o bearing anyways due to noise. The fork is rather robust, I wonder if my seized ??? who knows I will get pics

Well the t/o bearing seized on the input shaft and broke the collar that it rides on. Best of my knowledge nissan does not sell replacement parts for these transmissions do they??? I will get some pics up tomorrow we are getting ready for easter dinner.
