Default Eagle rods with stock pistons?

Just curious if anyone has a semi built motor with eagle rods and stock pistons. i have a 1999 nissan maxima and will be swapping a 2004 vq35 motor with cattman headers, arp rod bolts, main bolts, head studs, cosworth hg and maybe BC dual valve springs and cams if i have the extra cash. I will be boosting with a vortech T-Trim with a 3.12 pulley or 2.87 and also a small fmic for now. I will be tuning it with a emanage ultimate which i know its crap to you guys but it's the only thing we can use for our cars.

I spoke to a owner of a 850whp 350z and told me if i'm using eagle rods with wrong pistons, there will be knocking noises. Is that true?

I do not have the extra money for pistons and if i do, i need ones that are 9:1 i dont see them around except for arias extremes which are pricey.

Please let me know if you think using stock pistons with eagle rods is ok. Thanks

You are going to so much trouble - in the end getting the pistons I think will be well worth it to you. Give Sharif at ForgedPerformance a call and see what he can do for you... skip the cams and valve springs if you need to - well IMO - give Sharif a call and see what he recommends.

The 850whp 350z guy is a dummy..

The knocking noises may refer to a larger piston to wall clearance with any forged generic piston like CP and wiseco. Usually the challenge is to find the perfect P2W clearance to avoid piston noise while having enough clearance for expansion. Too small of a clearance and piston will come in contact w/ cylinder wall and that is no good. To large of a clearance and you'll need a larger piston. Is it reasonable to use OEM piston then? Heck no...

I would say save the cash on the head work, and buy the pistons with the rods.

if you are investing that much money into the car, I am sure you can find the extra ~$800 to $1000 for proper pistons. It is in your best interests to do both at once

+1. If you want to save some money, and planning just an SC setup, you can save about $300 by going with Arias standard duty shelf pistons. http://www.forgedperformance.com/sto...cat=249&page=1

im looking into pistons now..the thing is..not sure if its worth putting more money on a fwd car...lol..i might just swap the motor in the car and run 13psi and thats it. tuned with a greddy emanage ultimate and call it a day.

well as for pistons, what do you guys think of wiseco pistons with eagle rods?

great thanks..i just got my eagle rods..i found a set of wiseco pistons 8.8:1 with moly coated skirts, rings, wrist pins & circlips for 559 + shipping.

is it ok to drive around with this set up n/a? i wont be boosting till after the winter since i have plans to do a 6spd swap when i find all the 6spd parts that i need from a 02-03 maxima.

also looking for cams. i need an all around cam for n/a and sc.

i see nismo tune r cams that i was interested in but will there be any gains when im supercharged? i heard pathfinder cams will be perfect for boost. please let me know your thoughts thanks guys.
