Default Turbonetics Z after 2k went BOOM!! *PICS*

Hey guys/gals....
As some of you know my engine blew up a few weeks back and now we are starting to see why....but first...mods to catch you up...
I have a 03 enthus. that had a procharger on it for two summers, ran it at track at 10psi and ran a 12.3. ... I loved it but like everyone else wanted more power and got sick of belt issues at high boost...now i ran that with no problem at 12psi(never made it to the track)...but this could have set the motor up for failure with the turbo kit...no one knows....
Now i put a turbonetics st on and got it tuned at grd, which they always do a great job...got a 8psi tune (405/398) and wanted to go at least 12-15psi on the race gas but the dyno overheated and spilled hydraulic fluid everywhere!! I should have taken this as a sign!! So i figured not much left of the summer I will just enjoy the kit and go big boost next summer and push the block...well no pushin was necessary..about 2k later i was in second...gave her hell and went to shift to third and nothin!! Motor died...wouldnt turn over... Limped her into a parking lot and looked around...nothin dripping...tranny could go in all gears..WTF! Well the boom that happened prob was masked by my exhaust and i am glad because it was a BIG ONE!!
Now...for the pics...it looks like i put a rod threw a piston!! Pullin the motor saturday and will keep everyone updated!!

My guess is since banks 5 and 6 run so lean at the upper end, that is the cylinders that blew. Seen it many times. The stock manifold is a POS and causes this to happen. If you either did a MotorDyne setup, or the Kinetix manifold which creates even air flow, this might have helped.

get her built and replace that manifold before running her again, and you will be set.

I think banks 2 & 4 run lean since they are at the end of the fuel rail. I'm thinking fuel pressure could be the issue.

Don't run your car so hard THAT often. Simple as that.

Were you using an EMS?

No it's banks 5 and 6 that isn't getting enough air due to the stock intake manifold. The car supplies enough fuel per chamber, it's the air it's having trouble with. That is why 5-6 run so lean compared to the other chambers.

Rod threw the Piston? Nice way to go out

Good luck on the new build, seems like a good time to throw a GTM shortblock in there

Let me know if you need anything.

This may be silly, but wouldn't less air = rich?

If the amount of fuel were constant over all the cylinders...then the only variable left would be air. If there was less air and the same constant amount of fuel over all cylinders than this would mean cylinders 5 and 6 would be running rich....not the other way around(lean)

Generally speaking though there is an issue with cylinders 5 and 6 having airflow distribution as compared to the other cylinders with the stock plenum.

There could very well be a fuel system issue as well...but we dont know anything yet

That is odd because mine was the same cylinder that went on my car when it was single turbo.
