Quote: Im confused so does advancing your timing generate more hp or torque on race gas only or will it work with 93 octane also.
It may make a difference. But I haven't tested that.

Quote: Is this advance timing mod worth doing for some low end grunt. One more question changing the timing does not take away any hp up top does it, thanks.
Advancing timing, within reasonable tuning limits, only makes more power.

Hydrazine Oh Ok One More Thing That I Don't Think You Answered Or You May Have Because My Reading Comprehension Might Be Lacking Lol. So Do You See Any Benefits Of This Mod With 91 Or Higher Octane Or Just With Race Gas. I Think You Answered It But Just Making Sure I Believe You Said You Have Not Tested It Meaning On Regular Gas.

Just a comment on advancing timing too much. Even if you're not getting knock, too much timing can raise EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temps) beyond what the exhaust valves & components can safely handle. I'm not sure at what point they would fail though.

When tuning; I raise my timing to the point of where I start getting knock, then I back it off a degree or two. I have no way to measure EGTs, so this is what was suggested on the Subbie (Utec tuning) forums.

Quote: Yes, but be careful about what octane booster you use.

Most of the OTC stuff at the autopart stores don't work or only have limited effectiveness.

And some of them can foul up your spark plugs.
Any suggestions on a brand/type to pick up? I'd probably just wanna' try it out once for the hell of it.

I'd say on a VQ, 17 is without a doubt the limit for everyday conditions and use.

Should I pick up a pair of Fast Intentions Resonated Test Pipes from a Z member? Any opinions on them? Since they're resonated, I assume they aren't very loud?

I haven't tried the unresonated ones on my car but I went from HFC's to resonated TP's with a Greddy Evo2. It was a signifiant difference in 'loudness' and totally changed the tone of the exhaust. Trust me, it will be loud.

As in a timing advance with 91 octane?... It didn't do anything for me.

Yes. Mix with real race gas. That's the way to really do it.

Anything to bring your octane near or above 95 should be the practical limit on stock internals with a really good tune. You certainly won't benefit more from 100+ octane unless you have serious FI modifications.

If you already have 93 octane, you won't see the same level of gains as I did with 91 octane though. Probably a lot less like Adam said. It seems Nissan designed the engine for ~93 octane.

The gas we have out here in Ca. is a really bad concoction of flamable liquids. Dirt gas. If it burns, they will sell it as gasoline.

I intend to keep the stocker, though.
