Default weird RPM issue??

Just recently my car started doing something funny. When i give it some gas the rpms will jump up for a sec and then come back down. Anytime i accelerate they jump up about 1k rpms and then level back out a second later. its very weird and annoying.. Any ideas what is causing this?

Look up "clutch slip" on youtube and see if the videos are the same as what you are describing. If so, your clutch is either getting burnt out or you could be leaking clutch fluid somewhere. This isn't a different opinion but hopefully it helps you nail the issue down.

actually i just looked it up and thats not it. I dont have to accelerate really fast, just give it a little gas and my rpms will go up about 1k and then just drop back to normal and continue to accelerate..

I consistently experience exactly what you describe. I have a 2003 Performance model with a MT. I usually see this when first starting to drive the car and in colder temperatures. I assume it has something to do with the Z’s electronic throttle and automated choke. I notice it mostly while driving slowly, shifting up, and applying power; but it will happen other times as well.

I have taken the problem to my dealer, but they cannot duplicate it.

EDIT: This is not a problem with my clutch.

Well, I actually just had someone test drive my car(i am selling it) and he noticed right away and said it was indeed clutch slip. So i guess i need to get a new clutch..

now mine does not slip when i put it into any gear(as i have read in some other threads), it only sliips when i give it more gas(in any gear). This is still clutch slipping right? anyone?

Definately sounds like clutch slip in your case. The cluch will hold at steady power leves (cruising) but when you accelerate it takes more clamping force to hold the clutch firm.

Good news is it doesnt take alot of work to change the clutch. If you do take a look at the friction surface on the flywheel. If indeed you do have clutch slip you will have hotspots. They are noted by a purpleish blue almond shapped archs.
