Well, sometimes when I shift, I do hear a noise, I'm not sure if describing it as a 'clunk' is the same thing I'm hearing. Is it possible to get a clip?

Do you ever get a 1st to 2nd gear grind? I too get the occasional clunk when shifting from 1st to 2nd. It almost sounds/feels as if the gear is being kind`ve "shot" or thrown into place,as if it`s being slammed into gear, instead of flowing smoothly into gear.

Mine`s really temperamental. I sometimes get a smooth as silk shift, other times you can feel the gears not properly meshing (you can feel the gear teeth biting into each other),then I get the clunky shift, and then there`s the dreaded all-out grind (only in 1st to 2nd shifts.........the other gears shift smooth as melted butter).

My 03 clunks when going into reverse sometimes. Obviously I dont have an 07 but my transmission has done this for a long time(78k miles) and I dont have any problems. So dont worry until it grinds.

What was your gear grinding like? For instance, just now as I was driving home from work,I accelerate at a green light, shift from 1st to 2nd with a LOUD grind/crunch. The input shaft bearing growl is getting worse as well. What`s totally pathetic,is this is going to be my third new tranny in a span of only a couple of months. Thank the lord it`s got a warranty!

I`m at the point to where I want reimbursement from Nissan and maybe trying to get a tranny shop to bolt up a decent manual tranny other than Nissan`s sourced out one. It`s making me wonder if I have any options.

I have the same exact 1st to 2nd gear grind on my 04

I've been asking around about changing the transmission fluid to try to help make the shifting smoother, some people say it helps some say it doesn't.

I think that changing the fluid is like the only thing you can try before replacing the whole transmission.

This issue is apparently covered under the 5-year/60,000mile powertrain warranty but I'm pretty sure that if your gears don't grind EVERY time you shift the dealer is going to give you a hard time. Mine only seems to grind 50% of the time.

I really want to try replacing the transmission fluid to see if that helps... but I don't want to risk voiding my warranty b/c I'm certain I'll need a new trans eventually.

I have an 07 and I also have that issue, when I shift from first to second it grinds then clunks into gear. If, however, I go from first then sit in neutral for a sec then second, it goes in smooth. Im taking mine into the dealer to have them look at it.

I have experienced this in my '03 Gc. It feels somewhat like clipping a carabiner onto a metal rod. I'm the second owner with +71K, no warranty. Maybe I'll try changing trans fluid?

If anyone is under warranty an you want it replaced, all i did was going in an say it clunks an drives like crap. They took it for a test drive an heard it making the noise no problem an even had a hard time shifting into 2nd an 1st at one point an they put a new trans in it for me. The 2nd time around they didnt take it for a drive guess they figured out the transmissions are temperamental. I'm at alittle over 4k on this one now no problems unless i dont let the car warm up an the only noise is my lighten flywheel.
