Default 10 second Z?

hey guys! i just registered here. im 17. i live in ohio. basically over the last year i decided that 350z's are sexy and i wanted one and since then i've been saving up. just small cash right now, but im lookin to be taking this car to heart. i want it to go FAST.

basically all im asking is how much $ do you think you'd need to put into a 350z to make it a 10 second car (aside from the driver, most important piece).

if not a 10 second car, how fast do you think 10,000 in strictly performance upgrades could get me? thanks a lot guys.

Ibh

(In before Hraesvelg)

10 grand won't get you a 10 second car. Depending on your year, it's going to cost about as much as you spent on the car. 10 sec is a drag car...

10k in performance upgrades...it depends...you got a lot of reading to do before you start thinking about a 10 sec car.

you can go FI on a stock block...good for about 400whp. sometimes more. but that will definately not get you into the 10s and that is still going to run you a little more then 10k.

for 10k i would worry about supporting mods before you decide you want to go "fast"!!

lets just say ive spent almost 30k on JUST performance mods (engine, FI, and others...not supporting mods)...and im still probably not at 10s. but definately low 11s

a misconception you young minds have more then likely due to the fast and the furious is that you have to be a 10 second car to be considered fast. well...let me just say this...every single car that you have seen in the fast and the furious were NOT 10s cars. they were riced out 12 to 16 second cars....with only one or two being in the 12 to 13 sec range. but do not be misled....you sit in a 11 sec or 12 sec car when its in full throttle...you will $hit your pants...its FAST

I'm going to be gentle. My performance upgrades:

Hotchkis sway bars.
Greddy coilovers.
Forged wheels/wider tyres.
Brembo GT BBK
OEM replacement rear brake rotors
5AT-spec to 6-MT spec final drive gear swap

My car is VERY far from a 10 sec. I am already over 10K into this. However I wouldn't even think about making the car accelerate faster without making sure that could stop/handle better.

Very well put. I remember when I though that the real fun does not begin till you hit like 650 whp.

haha thats.. comforting?

yeah i dont idolize fast and the furious. and yes i understand 11 or 12 sec cars are still insane. i guess it all depends on the way someone looks at it.

as long as i can have fun. i guess tahts my main deal, but i dont want to get stuck with some rice p.o.s.

elegance is what im going for. anywhere from 12-15 sec is where i want to go. looks wise i really like the tourenn kit.

not necessarily with those black rims, but style wise thats what im going for visually. T_T. plus my friend has an '01 GTI VR6 and i want to shut him up

you talk about 10 seconds and looks in the same boat with a tag price of 10k...?????????

if you want to go fast...concentrate on that and that alone...looks should come second....

10k will get you a painted body kit, wheels, and springs...and maybe a few other things...

and you will still be no faster then when you started

If you take a closer look at that kit you'd see that the front mud gurad almost touches the ground. And the majority of the more aggressive body kits without an equally aggressive drop look a bit awkward. Not to mention that a full body kit with the proper body work will take a out a VERY large chunk of your 10K budget. A Z can look really good with a stock body...

FAST is going down the front straight of a nice road course at 120+, setting up for the corner, hitting the brakes hard to slow down, accelerating through the apex into the next straight or getting ready for another corner. Doing this 12-13 times a lap is what the 350Z is all about - NOT whether you can do 12 second 1/4 miles. Try some lapping days at a road course facility near you and you will see what I mean. Just an old man's opinion.

don't get me wrong i love the body stock, but i do happen to be looking for a more aggressive look. and i understand that is gonna take a big chunk of that money and not make me go faster. i dont know whether i want to do performance or looks first or whether to do it a little bit together. first thing i'll probably end up doing is a cold air intake and sway bars, that sorta thing. then go for the kit. then maybe a turbo or something. then rims/tires. its a very grueling process haha. i can visualize exactly what i want the end product to be, but its the time in between that makes everything else difficult.

I'll tell you right away, you'll be wasting time/money with the intake. The stock one is actually pretty well designed. Good call on the sway bars though, That was my first upgrade too. I got hotchkiss ones, both set to med.

and at 17 years old with a 7 dollar an hour job at the supermarket, getting to even 12 seconds isnt goign to happen...

its a painful reality i know, and it sucks, but its the truth...

unless daddy is rich...and wants to end up like holk hogan unfortunately did because of his son...and then you probably would rather hide yourself on this forum...just my two cents
