Question Is too much LSD oil bad?

I just serviced my Nismo diff with the left-over Motul that I bought from Sharif@Forged 4000 miles ago (what a great vendor BTW!!!). The specs say that our diff holds 3 pints of oil, but I probably put in almost 4 pints (I pretty much finished one almost-full bottle which is ~2 Liters). Is too much LSD oil a bad thing? Obviously, too little is very bad.

won't it leak out the breather?

I thought you were basically supposed to fill it until it started leaking out of the fill-hole, and as long as the car is level you can't go wrong.

(correct me if wrong Kthnxsbye)

if you jacked your car up from the back and it was leaning forward, I guess it is possible to overfill it a little, butI can't imagine a whole pint extra.

maybe the bottle had less than you thought in it?

start with a level surface and keep filling until it dribbles out the fill hole.

How do you put too much oil in the deferential? There is a hole in the side.

deferential? I don't bow to mine

also, with the Nismo LSD, I change it when I change my engine oil. 3k-4k miles.

I used to overfill my old welded diffs, and those were well over 15 years old and it was fine. Any excess pressure is released from the breather

Yeah, I had my car jacked up from the rear on the passenger side, so that makes the fill hole on the side higher. I'll see if there is anything I can do about opening up the fill plug and leveling it out.
This is the fifth time I changed my diff oil. I wait about 3-5K miles.

BTW, what is the "breather"?

It equalizes the inside diff pressure to the pressure outside of the diff.

it's on the top of the diff. you should see a line of fluid residue on the casing coming from the top (in the back)... just follow it up. I think it's just a hole with a valve.

Thanks Motormouth, I'll take a look.
So I guess the answer then is a unanimous "No, too much LSD oil is not bad."

Thanks, everyone!
