Here is what i think i know.
The 350Z's final drive model is R200V or R200?.....Final Drive Ratio is 3.538 to 1 for 6/MT and 3.357 to 1 for the 5/AT.
1997-1998 240SX's have final drive model R200V with a 4.083 to 1 Final Drive Ratio.
Non Turbo 300ZX's have final drive model RS00V with a 4.083 to 1 Final Drive Ratio.
1995-1996 J30's have final drive model RS00V with a 3.916 to 1 Final Drive Ratio.

Final Drive Model for 350Z and 240SX listed

Are swaps possible? Im a noob, but those fast domestic owners are always talking about gears!

I swapped my 5AT final for the 6MT final back in April down at Z1 Motorsports. AFAIK, I am the only such swap to this point. And yes, it has given me back some low end grunt at the expense of 1-2 mpg loss. No big deal. I p/u between 2 and 4 tenths (hard to average with wx changes) in the 1/4 and that IS a big deal! A worthwhile swap.
I do wish I knew if the gears from the 97-98 would fit. Now there's a good swap if you like to run the 1/4 more than cruise the interstate!
Thanks for the info and I am going to ck. out the possibility of the even lower gears from the 97-98. If you hear of the possibility of a match, please post. Thx, Jim

The 6/MT has a 6th gear (od) of .794:1
An LS1 Camaro/Vette/Firebird has a 6th gear of .50:1 which allows the engine to cruise at 1750 RPM's and achieve around 30 MPG's in 6th gear
Can we change the 5th gear ratio for the 5/AT or the 6th for the 6/MT?

Looks like the JDM 180SX (S13) also used a R200V "final drive model"...It's the 180SX with the CA18DET engine.
That 180SX (S13) has a Final Drive Ratio of 4.363:1
The RS13 (180SX) also has a Final Drive Ratio of 4.363:1 but has taller gears throughout.

There has got to be more to it than just finding nissan cars that also used the final drive model R200V right?
My fantasy gear setup
1st 3.50:1
2nd 2.35:1
3rd 1.55:1
4th 1.05:1
5th 0.55:1
Final Drive 4.363:1

I've also been looking at swapping the final drive ratio. I'm moving up to 20" rims in the back, and I could definately use a 4.x:1 to counter act the lost time as much as possible. I woudl be happy if I could break even and get around the same accel w/ 20" as I was with my 17"s. I took a look at some of your links:
R200 MT 3.538
R200V MT 3.357
R200V AT 3.357
I know the base model (which I have) has the final drive ratio of 3.538:1. I take it the trailing "V" means for cars that have the viscious LSD right? In which case they do have the lower final drive ratios.
I think the re-gearing of all gears would be a bit more $$$ as someone would have to crack the tranny and replace the gearing. I'm thinking about going to a few tranny shops around here ot see if it will be possible to swap out the final drive with something around 4:1 to 4.5:1. Anyone else here in the forum done something like this yet? Any ideas?
